is really hittin the spot right now. one of those songs that reminds me of the Rosebud Creek...
The Deftones do an awesome cover of that song.
Haven't heard it, I'll have to download it when I get home.
Currently listening to the Freebird solo.
I am listening to Tuesdays Gone.
simple man. no kind of.
I think Hank Jr. did the best cover of this song..
Shinedowon by far does the best cover... imo of course but his voice can NOT be matched...
Ugh! Shinedown does the WORST cover. I am a huge Skynyrd fan, so I don't feel any cover comes close to the original.
Really...I thought they did an awesome job. I didnt think it was that far off from the opriginal, vocal wise it was embelished but the music was spot on... I love skynyrd, always have and for more than their "popular songs..."
Then again I also like alot of new music... so that may be the differance?
For old timers, it's blesphemy, especially THAT song... Noone can touch Ronny..
But on a tech note, I just really hate the way they progress thru their version...
I didnt grom up on skynyrd, ive prolly been into them for 9-10 years. Way before shinedown but I dont have the same attachment you guys do...
Personal preferance I guess. But as far as covers go its my fav. Theres still a special place in my heart for the original though...
(and no, that special place is not Dee-Dee-Dee)
I forgot about the shinedown version.. I liked it too.. heck, hank jr's version had flutes in it, which the original didn't have..
I'd rather hear a band interpret a song their own way, rather than do a note for note copy of the original... it doesn't always "work", ( to me ), but sometimes it does..
I like the way gov't mule does covers, and type O negative too.. an example of a cover that missed the mark ( way missed ) was warrant doing the old blackfoot song, "train, train".. now THAT sucked.. but then, I hated warrant, so maybe that had a lot to do with my reaction to the song..
I don't mind if a band covers someone else's song, as long as they do it justice. I don't care for shinedown anyway, but the guy sounds too much like he's havin' problems pinching one out during the cover.
describes a lot of bands that are out these days..
