One of the trucks at my work wont go into 3rd, 4th or reverse. The clutch pedal is also really hard to push but I dont think this is related. It is a 91 3500 two wheel drive with a 454 and a hydro clutch. I pulled out the shifter and the shift rails look like they are in the right spot. We pulled the trany but sense it wont go into reverse the top cover doesnt want to come off. I just thought I would check here for ideas before it goes to the shop (working on the truck is more fun the digging trenches for irrigation).
Thanks in advance

Well, sounds like you checked what I was gonna suggest -- Making sure that it's shift rails were not jammed up. The fact that the truck moves suggests that all of the shift collars are in the neutral position too.

The low gear, and 1st gear shift collar share the same shift fork, if I recall correctly, so chances are, your other two shift forks are bent, or your shift cap is toast.

And yeah, not being able to get into reverse is a big problem, can you shove a prybar into it, and force it into reverse? If not, you midaswell just go and get a new transmission outright... 2wd SM465s are cheap and easy to find

We tried prying into reverse but no dice

good call on the PTO I didnt even think about that, I will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks Again

I had the same problem.
Turns out it was the c-clip on the back of the reverse plunger had came off.
