So AC is Broke, Dont Really Need it anyway as I run the top off all summer. Going to be upgrading to the Summit heater to free up some room... So on that note. What exactly can all be removed?

What all is there varies from year to year but basically you can gut most of the stuff behind the glove box along with the box under the hood. Watch out for the computer (if equipped) and I'd suggest unplugging the harness instead of cutting.

The bigger question is what are you going to do with the hole left in the firewall when it's all gone.

Leave that stuff in. My buddy is restoring his high school truck. He is going crazy trying to find all the parts to put it back to stock. If you are going to make your truck into a rock buggy then go ahead.

Ill weld up the hole in the Firewall and leave a hole for the 2 heater hoses coming off the summit heater. Going to mpount the Battery's there when finished.

No computer, Its an 1981 K5.

And Noted on keeping all the Parts, Ill be Listing them up for sale anyway.

On not removing it, Im going to have this till it dies or I do. So It wont be sold to anyone else.

So just kinda follow the Haynes Manual Backwards to remove it all?

I'm doing the same thing right now myself, except leaving in the compressor for OBA. Going to tackle pulling the stuff off the firewall tonight, post some pics if it helps. I'm not sure how different the AC setup would be between your 81 and my 88, but give you a general idea anyway.

That would be great!

I didn't think the Compressor could be used because it doesn't have its own oil sump? Or are you running a separate reservoir?

As it turns out I'm getting jammed with meetings and might not be able to get home tonight before dark to get some work done, but I'll post some pics for you once I have a chance.

As far as using the compressor, check the thread where I've been asking that very question. Too much info to post again here. :pimp:

When you get to mounting the battery, Artec has some nice boxes. I used one of their's to put my battery on the firewall.

My wife got me a summit racing heater for Xmas. I have an 87, freon was non-existant in my system and I yanked everything out. A/C compressor, all lines, heater core....all of it.
