Me and some friends went out and played in the snow yesterday :D

I took the 2500 to even out the odds for him
Here's me trying one of the "K30 trails".
It was quite a challenge, but with a heavy right foot I succeeded in the end,
but not without some carnage...:o

We also played around some in an old sand pit,
until my friend with the K5 toasted his rear differential. :doah:

Cools vids.

How exactly does the diff go out like that? Was it stock and just ... old? I have a stock limited slip so I'm just trying to find out if there is anything I should avoid while driving in the snow.

Ha ha! Love the snow videos.

Too bad about your buddies rear diff though. Time for upgrade I suppose!

sweet vids! :thumb: all the snow there is amazing!

and proof you can hammer on an ifs rig and have fun wheelin it.

He haven't opened the cover yet, so we can't be 100% sure what happened.
But I've heard that the PO changed the gear ratio, without re-shimming it:eek:
So there are probably some teeth missing

I think driving in snow is quite easy on stuff, as you seldom hook up and get good traction.
If the the fact that my 6-lugged IFS front-axle held up for the abuse with my 37" tires,
isn't proof enough,
my gov-loc:ed rear held up as well :D

Thanks for explaining the diff issue. I'm stock so I guess I don't have to worry. Plus there are no mountains or snow like that for hundreds of miles around me! :(

looked like he was runnin a pretty big tire for stock 10 bolts.only a matter of time, even in snow.pretty sweet vids.looks like fun.

Looks like fun! What rim/tires are you running? Looks like HMMVW and MTRs. What size tires was he running? I heard the stock 10's can hold a 35" fairly well. I wonder what makes them break the higher up you go?

I run 37/12.5-16 Interco SSR on Cragar D-window wheels,
and my friend with the Blazer runs 37/13.5-15 Maxxis Mudzilla, I don't know what wheels.

Yeah, we're both begging for stuff to break with those tires:o

Nice videos, I am sure it was a lot of fun. Even though I don't speak your language I can still understand the laughter, and the "yeahooo"! Great time you guys had. So how many hours were you out wheelin' during that trip?

Reminds me of snow wheeling here in the midwest US, especially the northern areas. The front lockers definitely help the traction, but you will also find that you slide sideways in the snow a lot more than you want too, so trees get even closer. It's worth it though for the extra pull, more power for more wheel speed helps too. It's a blast!

Excellent videos. I only have a couple hundred miles on my rebuilt tranny so I don't want to beat it just yet but I had to test Jiminy after last week's 19" snow storm. I was satisfied with the results.

Thanks, yeah it puts a lot of strain on the tranny.
My TH700 gets hot as hell when wheeling in snow :frown1:
I should probably get an extra oil-cooler for it

We were only out for a couple of hours, it gets dark here at 3 pm this time of year :frown1:
I hear you about the lockers, with a flexy suspension it's often best with open diffs in the snow.
I have considered swapping the rear detroit for an E-locker in my K30...

As for the 2500, I think I'm lucky they don't make a locker or lsd for the front, otherwise I would have bought one, and snapped even more drive shafts:o
