Soo...Rubicon Trip 2017?

Ah man. I'm only able to make week day runs this summer. What about a day trip to the high lakes?

it's a possibility. I leave next week for three weeks so I won't be planning anything until I'm back and comfortable with my junk being trail ready.

I read this last month. Nothing sense.

Yesterday, May 22, 2017, the El Dorado County Parks Department closed the Rubicon Trail from Wentworth Springs Campground to the County Line at the north end of Rubicon Springs. The closure is due to the large volume of water on the trail, specifically the water depth at Soup Bowl, one of the monitoring areas outlined in Exhibit C of the 2012 Rubicon Trail Easement. The water there is several feet deep and more than 10 feet wide, which meets the closure criteria.

In the past, closures of this type occurred due to water depth at Winter Camp. The good news is that after the work done by Friends of the Rubicon and the County last season, Winter Camp is looking good…the water depth there is not enough to meet closure criteria.

It appears that the deep water at Soup is due to an ice dam at the outlet and that ice dam has caused the drainage to be clogged by debris. RTF has been talking to the County and working with them to formulate a solution as soon as possible. We hope that the trail will be open by June 1st.
