Hey guys, I also posted in the wanted section, but thought this would get more traffic.

I am getting my 88 k5 back on the road. The transfer case is ready to go back together, but I need a 15 tooth drive gear for the speedometer. They are either gray or brown and longer than a 700r4 gear. I also need a 45 tooth driven gear to go with it. I'm running 315/75 r16 maxxis mudders and a 4.88 diff ratio.

The 15 tooth seems to be rare and is not made any longer. I searched my town and the internet. I have one guy in Florida that is going to order one and then call me with measurements, as his is for an 80-87 Jeep 208. I do not know if the gear is interchangeable.

Does anyone have a source for a 15 tooth drive gear or have one laying around that they want to sell?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I saw that site too. They are out of stock on the gear. I thought about the ratio adapter. I could have a new speedo that is electronic for the price of some of the adapters, but I would like to keep my current gauges, as they work fine and my K5 is more stock (I went all out with the autometers on my pickup, but the original ones were toast anyway).

I'll look into the ratio adapter some more. thanks

I'm thinking you should recheck your math. 35's and 4.88 should not force you to 45 and 15 teeth. Maybe the 42-tooth gear would work. Although your difficulty is in finding the correct drive gear, which only came in 15 and 17 tooth. If you could find the 13-tooth Dodge gear you could run a 36 or 37 tooth driven gear, I guess.

But what do you already have on hand? Is the original gear trashed or something? The 17-tooth wouldn't work because you would need like 48 teeth on the driven and 45 is the max.

I have gotten used ones from a local transmission shop before. They had a big box of them for me to fish through. I just gave them a couple of bucks. But many shops are not friendly towards this kind of thing. You could also try junkyards. Sometimes stuff like that is just laying around somewhere and nobody even knows what it's for.

I picked up a used t case that had an 18t drive gear, t case is in great shape, just needed cleaned up and resealed. Last night I checked my old tcase that is still in my k5. The drive gear is gray, so it should be a 15t, and it has a 38t driven. 15/38 makes since for a 3.73 rear and stock tire.

Looks like I need to get the engine swapped out and then pull the old tcase to see what it really has. My maxxis mudder 315/75 r16 tires are actually 16.25" from the ground to the center of the hub, which gives me 32.5 height to calculate for the speedo. My uncle (owns a trans shop) is working on the tcase for me and has a few other driven gears. He has a 44 and a couple smaller. As long as I get the right drive gear, I can easily swap out the driven to adjust.
