Heres the deal, I have a 203(turbo 350 trans) in a 73 blazer, its the orginal case. I planned on keeping it till I went doubler, but a 205 has come up I can get by doing some mechnical work on a freinds truck. I am getting the whole thing turbo 350 and fixed yoke 205 all bolted together.

Now my ?s.

I have read that the rear driveshaft does not to be changed. I kind of need to know cause I broke my rear driveshaft. I want to get my truck running but won't be swapping in the 205 for a couple months probably. If the driveshaft needs to be longer then I will wait. I am not fond of paying for something twice.

Second front output. Will my current front driveshaft bolt to the output on the 205?

Rear output? Do my current 203 and the 205 use the same u joint?

I am building a square front so no worries there.

Finally will I need a different speedo cable?

Thanks guys

203 is longer than the 205.

if it was a fixed yoke 203, then i think the u-joint is the same

the front flange should be the same

hope that helps

I did this swap in my 74.
It wasn't that the 203 was bad, the shifter was. I also didn't like have that big heavy transfer case hanging off the back of the tranny with no support. I had a few 205s around so I swapped transfer cases.
I had to shorten the front shaft.
I had a spare drive shaft shorten for the rear (from a 1/2 ton with 205). Otherwise I had to lengthen the rear.
The shifter went though the same hole.
The cross members are different! The 203 has wider spacing for the tranny support bushings. Either cut new holes in your existing cross member or get a cross member for a 205. I used a 205 cross member because I had one.
Speedo cable screwed in. I need the speedometer gearbox because my speedo is off.

The crossmember in my 74 worked for both 203 and 205. The holes were slotted from the factory, and it bolted right up.

Yea my 205 bolted right in place of the 203. The 205 front output yoke was a flat sqaure thing that took a round flanged shaft. The 203 had a miserable fine thread yoke. The front shafts would have to be swapped. It'd be good to get the rod that bolts to the side of the 203 and runs up to the bottom bolt on the bell housing.
