The yukons have been out for awhile now, so what's the verdict between the 2?

About a year ago I had the opportunity to buy a set of 35 spline spicer lockouts but passed on them. They had brand new dials and were about the same price as the new 35 spline Yukon lockouts. It would only take a phone call to find out if I could still buy them, so is the a preference between the 2?

This is for a Dana 60 with 35 spline stubs. I currently run drive flanges, but this is evolving into a truck that spends more time on the road then off.

Didn't know Spicer offered a 35 spline locking hub. I thought they were all stock application and I don't think the D60 ever got 35 spline from the factory.

But I'm not sure.

I've never used the Spicer hubs but I've seen them. The Yukons are chromoly and I'd consider them much stronger. I run them with 38s and a locker. ChrisP has them on 44s (or 42) and a locker. :D

Spicer never offered 35 splines. That's the thing about the best OEM lockouts offered: They're inner gear has enough beef on them they can be broached safely to 35 spline and not lose their strength. :waytogo:

From what I understand it's an aftermarket piece that allows for 35 spline stubs. Or you can have the originals modified for 35 spline.

IMO, it's a toss up between the 2 hubs because the Yukon internal parts are a copy of Spicer designs. As for the material, chromoly is way cool but I've never heard or read of anyone breaking a spicer hub.

I like the yukons for the slim design and all steel construction.

Woulda bought em but flanges were cheaper.

I may just call and see if the Spicers are still available. Thinking about it, at the time he wanted $325 for them and I just checked the Yukon's and they're $375.
If we ever get another meet and greet together it would cut out the shipping also.

Hmmmm... Might be time for some BBQ. :D

Have you checked with the vendor (CCOR) here selling the yukons? If memory serves, I paid less than those Spicers.

I have a buddy running yukons, trucks only been out a couple times though. So I can't attest to there durability.

I've been running Yukons since they came out. When they were released I called all over and found a vendor with them in stock and had them sent my way.
I love them. They always engage and disengage smoothly and I haven't had to mess with them since the day I installed them.
I have a lot of trips to the dunes, up in the mountains playing in the rocks and some street time on them.

I have a set of Yukons on my truck. Only issue I've had is with corrosion of the dial vs the outside body. They must be dissimilar metals or something. The internals have been great. I have to take mine apart and clean the white crud out from between the two and lubricate the o-ring on a regular basis.

It's been a while, but I helped install a set of Yukons and I remember there was a step that was a huge PITA to do. They did seem very stout though.

What are the spicers you guys are talking about?

Spicers were the OE hubs used on GM trucks thru '81 and Fords thru '79, they are the benchmark of hubs. My avatar is a D60 Spicer hub.

Typically buy a used 30 spline set and have them broached to 35. Every now and then someone will sell a broached set.

OP: did you contact CCOR?

Yes, he sells the yukons cheaper than the Spicers were at the time (still haven't called the seller). I also contacted a vendor on pirate (I got my chromoly shafts from him) and he is cheaper than CCOR, both including shipping. Only by $10 though.
