Does this spindle look trashed? My other side looks better, so I'll keep it. Also, how the hell do you get this bearing out? I've destroyed the other one, heating it, and trying to punch it out with a screwdriver and hammer. :dunno:

damnit, already bought some SKF (iirc) from Pepboys. Mind didn't look that bad at all, but I kinda like the idea of the Teflon.

Where is a good source for spindles?

What spindle do you need? 6 lug or 8 lug or D60?

I have 1 good spindle from a 10b 6 lug original front axle from my 87.

Just fyi to help identify a bad spindle in the future -

On the outer bearing surface you can see rough pitting running around the circumference, this is from a spun bearing. Then on the same surface you also see the short lengthwise lines/marks from a chisel, this is a temp fix to try an stop the bearing from turning - purely a band-aid.

and 6 - 8 lug its small bearing early dana 44

or late 44 8lug with internal mount locking hubs went large bearing .

ah hell, I mine as well ditch the other side too. It's better, but not that great either.

Brian: It's an 8 lug D44 with 6 bolts on the spindle.

Thanks for all the help guys. Always appreciated. Never knew those marks were from a chisel, but I'll bet this is why I had a loud ringing sounds out of the front end while driving. :doah:

take a set of calipers and mic the big inner bearing surface of the old ones that are bad. if thay match the ones he has to sell its a direct swa from 10 bolt to 44 axle.

thats why i said small beaing or big bearing .

I don't own a measuring device like that. Honestly, never needed one or I would have bought one. My Snap-On bill is down to zero, maybe I should buy something...

those spindles are junk if both have the same marks.looks like the bearing has spun and galled the mating surface.you can get spindles from your local parts store.i bought one a few years ago from national auto.i believe it was under a hundred bucks iirc.

You can use an open end or adjustible wrench as a crude caliper--just try different ones or adjust the adjustible until it just fits over what you want to measure, then use a tape measure or ruler to measure the opening between the jaws..I used this method to measure sway bars ar the junkyard often...

thats a good way to do it.never thought of it.need a big adjustable to do that one,or a pipe wrench.
