Okay guys I'm stumped, well almost but before I go pulling my fuel tank out I wanted to get your thoughts. I have a 91 k5 blazer 5.7 and 4L60. It has a 2" body lift; the way I bought it; and is stock other than that. I have rebuilt the 220 TBI and all new sensors to clear the codes it had sevral but all that is replaced and I even tuned it up and put in a new distributer because the old one kept burning out the module. I was at my friends house borrowing his timing light to finish the job. It ran great the 40 minute ride home but threw another code. It was the EGR valve. I replaced it the next day. Ever sence it sporadically runs rough, spits sputters even back fires. No codes though. I did fill it up for the first time sence I bought it and it did sit a while. Give me some feed back. By the way I looked all through the forums before I posted and couldn't find anything that matched my problem.

Where did you get the EGR? (or better, is it the AC replacement for yours?)

All EGR's are not the same, there is essentially no such thing as a "universal" EGR, but that's what much of the aftermarket sells.

If the problem started after you changed the EGR, then that's where I'd be looking. Plug the EGR hose, drive it, see if problem goes away. You should get a check engine light, but it won't affect how the vehicle runs as far as I've seen.

EGR Valve

I bought the BWD brand EGR valve from O'reilly's. It was 50 dollars. Should I get the 150 dollar one? I hope not, jezz.

$63.79 before shipping & taxes.
Its whats currently on my 91 k5 5.7L Cali truck, just passed smog this week :woot:

I had tried a cheapie autozone EGR with no success.

how long did it sit with the fuel in it?? also just throwin this out there, have you replaced the o2 sensor, cheap and easy, and sometimes overlooked

yeah all sensors have been replaced the old fuel is long gone and I have changed the filter out but alas it did not help.

I'm thinking EGR valve still.

I'm going to change the valve out with an AC Delco Valve and see if that works.

Just unplug the vacuum line from the EGR, plug the vacuum line, and drive it. No reason to buy another EGR if the problem just happened coincidentally. Since it runs bad, it will be obvious very quickly if the problem is gone.

Might be a good idea to check the fuel pressure too,if the EGR test doesn't improve it any...only a few PSI less than it needs will make it run weird, and might not be "constant"...

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Been working but I will this weekend and let you all know. Thanks again for the feed back.
