So Cal.
that free steel that my boss gave me a while back was starting to bug me just sitting on the garage floor so i got started on a front bumper for my 89' 4x sub. i did a search for winch dimensions but came up with nothing. anyone have plate size and hole spacing for say a 12,000 lb winch. not sure which model but it will probably be a warn since i can get a pretty good discount through a buddies shop. please feed back, thanks.

i cut the taper pie cuts on the band saw and welded one side at work on this past friday then brought it home to finish welding the other taper up. then i made the verticle cuts to taper it back to give it a three dimensional look. dont like that flat board look with these type of bumpers. i will cap the cuts with plate bent at the same angle as the bumper that will have six 2 1/2 holes to plug weld plus around the edge ofcourse. dont want to weld the back taper up until i know the winch mount size to i can set the back taper properly so its mounted high and tight. what ya think?

Hey, is that 2x8x1/4? That is what I used for my bumpers. I just left mine straight though, looks like the same taper on the ends.

I've seen you say this a few times... Why dont you just pony up and get a membership?

Beacuse I spend my money on fuel and steel, if you would know the fuelprice in this country Im sure you would understand ! :D

thanks guys for all the props. tlcor, i will as soon as i can, im at work right now and my breaks are short. im going to add a stinger and side bars and light tabs too when im at that point in the build. i didn't want to loose the radius on the bottom so thats why i didn't just cut the bottom off and cap it. i will also cap the ends with the same radius so it all matches. yes it is 2x8x1/4 wall. a couple more pics. i also "v" grooved the seam to be welded for better penetration.

Good lookin' start! U gona seal it up good and use it as an air tank too?

hadn't thought about it, but thats not a bad idea. i have seen it done before. i guess it shuold be plenty strong enough after i am done, right? it doesen't seem like a whole lot of volume though. im gonna have a onboard air compressor, probably something like a oasis.

John

Dooooh :doah:

Really if for anything I got mine to help keep this board alive. No way it would stay around if there where no members to help out. I got my money back the first tech tip that saved me a trip to any mechanic.

Great job on the bumper. Keep us updated.
