Snapped some pics along the way... the goal is to unclutter the k10 over the next few months before I start tearing into the suspension/bed project over Christmas break...

The wires zip tied in place aren't permanent... I'll get some holders for them and screw it into the firewall but I couldn't find any in the garage tonight.
What do you guys think about the holes? I was thinking of just getting some diamond plate from the shop and cutting out some covers to bolt on... I'll hit it all with a wire wheel and throw some paint on it before though...

oh and btw I just looped the hoses together to bypass the heater core... it seems to work just fine...

Yep thats kind of what I was thinking...

On a side note... my next step is to ditch the inner-fenderwells which it looks like you've already done... the driver's side doesn't have anything on it (well it has the wiper fluid tank but w/e I don't need that) but the passenger side has the radiator overflow tank as well as the battery tray...

What did you do with the tank/tray?

BTW I love how clean it looks all finished like your's is...

Thanks

The Battery is in the stock location for now, I'm going to move it behind the passenger seat. The overflow tank is next to the radiator. I don't have a pic of that.

Lookin good. its fun to tear all that stuff out aint it. makes it simple to get to everything in the engine compartment. I moved my Red Top Ultima into the glove box. Can install and get it out from the bottom with the brackets I made. ran a couple leads to the firewall incase I ever need to jump someone off. Also put a remote solenoid on the firewall where all that HVAC stuff was so it is easy to start with a screwdriver if starter starts to go out. Fuel press regulator is there too. aint got any pics on this computer otherwise I would post em. But here is one without the fenders, dont know if I am gonna skin it or not. Got 40" boggers on it now, like that they dont ever rub anything. have fun

what are you going to do about a heater? i know your in cali but dont it get a little chilly in the mountains? or are you gonna finda donor truck with no a/c and get the heater core out of it?

reason im asking is because you said your trying to save space but on the none a/c trucks there is hardly anything sticking out for the heater box.

Yeah!! Time to start cutting. That's what I did with mine, Just used flat instead of Diamond. You plan to keep the heater, right??

Use adhesive/sealant to hold the panels in place. saves drilling holes. Use the good stuff from GM.

Yep it's nice to tear this stuff out... I've always envied my dad's truck when it comes to under the hood space... it's a '75 ford with a 390 but it doesn't have ANY extra stuff which makes it a piece of cake to get to stuff...
Until I green sticker the truck I can't go as minimalistic as his is (still have to keep the smog junk) but for now I can ditch stuff like this.

I like the idea of moving the battery... I was brainstorming with my dad and we thought moving it up on the firewall might be a good idea... but you moved it all the way in the glovebox? Sounds like a tight fit...

Same thing I've done since the days I DD this truck through highschool... just wear a jacket and roll the windows down for a defroster. :)
Seriously though, the HVAC system has never worked on this truck and I haven't had any problems and especially now that it's not my DD and I trailer it everywhere I don't think it'll be an issue...

Nope, I'm ditching it all...

That's a good idea... the good stuff from GM? Do you get it from a dealership or something? What about good ol' RTV?

I would still use the bolts to hold it in place. There is going to be a lot of vibs and banging going on. I think he is talking about the stuff used in the ?hump? at the shifter area. The floor part you can remove.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood what he was saying... I could always use both like the factory did... put a little RTV along the perimeter as well as bolt it on.

For those who need a heater, this is an option. It will fit up behind the dash.

I've seen those before and that's always an option but for how I use the k10 I don't think I'll need one...

I haven't needed a heater either, but living in Vegas is like living on the Sun.

Pretty much the same here in Fresno... I've been to Vegas a few times and it always feels like home.
For us in the dead of winter if it's in the 40's early in the morning that'd be pretty cold... but heck as soon as the sun pops out its 50*+ all day...

battery mount pics

Fittin the batter in wasnt to bad. two pieces of angle iron on bootom, slide battery up from undernieth sideways and turn into the angle iron, then bought a cheap battery hold down kit and cranked it down. My glove box door is diamond plate also and I put my MSD box on the inside of it with the rev controler on the outside, (way out of reach of the driver so I cant turn it up when I've had a couple to many heehee) It all fits pretty well and looks clean. Real easy to run the battery cables to the solenoid and starter from that location also. Here found some pics. aint the finished product, but it did clean up real nice and looks tight.

Sounds like a good setup...

Well guys I was just getting ready to go outside and get started on the clean-up process but my mom called and they're having some tech issues at the church so I have to go check it out... which isn't all that bad, it's still freakin' HOT here in Fresno...
I'll try to get some work done tomorrow after I get home from work.
