well looks like i fell victim to tha weak link, time for bracin then hi-steer & hydro-assist...lol
picture.php

well its all fixed now...weld on brace & bolt on brace purchased from ord & installed by searchers 4x4 n prarieville...even tested it tonite n a lil of this soup weve been havin due to tha rain round here...works great...

rock, ya think itll EVER b fixed for good??? lol...but it does feel good to actually steer...ill really test it this wknd by goin back to where i broke it lol

you didnt get the weld in frame repair kit???

Yes I did if you look at the finished picture you can see the plates edge
PS. all that crappy welding was a repair from the previous owner. I had to grind it all off ,groove the cracks and re-weld them before even adding the weld on plate

That was a poor disign by GM even on the 2wd's. I did the bolt on and weld on brace from the start even though there were no issues with my frame.

Same with mine...wasn't cracked when I bought the rig in 2000. Once I heard of and saw pics of failures I purchased ORD's weld-in plate and bolt-in brace. So glad I did before actual damage occured.

Much easier to do at least the brace from the get go. There are certain things IMO that need to be done right off the bat when building a GM, and the steering is one of them!!

I guess I'm the only asshole who welded his brace all the way around... :doah:

no sir...mines welded out as well...stitch welds arent as strong and dont take much more time...i shouldve done it with this truck a few months ago when it was @ tha shop as it was done by PO on my 90...jus slipped my mind...well its all good now...jus need to find sum local places round baton rouge area to "test it out"...

hmmmmm...well in my profession, a seal weld is better than a stitch weld, no lil areas for "stuff" to get n between plate n frame and cause seperation...

it can cause stress risers in the frame.....

I brought mine thru primer, then before paint, I seamsealed the non-welded areas to keep debri out...

What about TIG welding all the way around the plate on the frame?

I would think it would be the same theory... same principals apply... I've never tigged tho...

i tore mine running 38's,welded the new one on from ord,and have never looked back, love theyre products
