What year box do I need to look for to do crossover on my 86 K10?
Don't bother with a whole box. Just find a 2wd shaft and swap it into your box. You don't even have to remove the box from the frame. It's a whole lot easier that way.
I believe (IF I'm not mistaken) that '81 was the first year they used metric fittings on the power steering lines, so if you want a direct bolt-on, I think you'll want an '81-'87 box.
I for got about just swapping the shaft. Yes, that would definitely be easier! When I did my crossover, I already had a 2WD box laying around, so I just swapped the whole thing. You can get a 2WD shaft from a '69-'87 box.
it just so happens i have a broken 2wd steering box...the shaft is fine...just one of the ears on the box broke off...if you are interested in it let me know...i can dissasemble it and send ya the shaft or send ya the whole box and you can figure it out on your own
My box has some play in it so it needs to be changed anyways. That and the box will already be off to fix the cracked frame. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Is there a write up anywhere that tells how to change the shaft? (just incase I get the crack fixed and dont have a 2wd box yet)
How much for the shaft?
Thanks, thats what I needed to know.
how about $25 plus ride...but i will be about a week or so before i can get it out of the truck...
I'm second in line.
if i dont hear back yea or ney by tommorow its yours top off..since ya live close enough you could prob pick it up
I'd prefer ship... Unless your in North Stockton / South Sac! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Go ahead and let Topoff have it, I found a complete box and Im gonna go with it. Thanks anyways!
i live in lodi right off hwy 99...at the hwy 12 west exit..its only a 30min drive from sac..and that is north of stockton...or i can ship it to ya...either way works for me... /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
The allen head bolt on top of the box is used to adjust the backlash. The teeth on the shaft are tapered.
Will you make the Midwest K5 Thing Fall Run?
Im trying to get the truck ready so I can go to Potosi. I picked up a locked D44 with 4.56's from Neil Sunday and am going to Nebraska this weekend to get my 14FF with 4.56 and discs. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Still gotta fix the frame crack, grind the calipers, weld on some perches, ect. If i can get all my parts, Ill have the whole week before to install everything.
Im hoping to have the crossover done also.
KEWL, hope to see you and the modified rig there!
