Stock, drop or roll (cage)??

Alright here's my opinion and i'm sure there'll be tons of guys that will chime in and put in their 2 cents as well.

I've got a 4" lift and 33" tires. it used to rub till i cut the fenders. It would only rub under situations where i was fully flexed. so 6" of lift will probably be what your looking for. it wont flex as well as a 4" but there are always going to be ups and downs to each set up.

The 35's on 15x10 wheels will look and work very well. of you try 15x12 the sidewalls will bubble out and look dumb IMO.

As far as tires go on the list you've got there here is my order from best to worst ( again IMO)
BFG AT T/A
MickeyT Baja ATZ
Dick Cpk F-C II
ProComp extreme AT

Here's a pic o my rig fully flexed

If you win GMOTM I think that is the pic that should be used :thumb:

Ok, I'm sure we've all heard the tale. An 80 year old man keeps his ol' 1979 Blazer in the garage and drives it 4 blocks, twice a week, for years and years... When ANYTHING went wrong he was anal about fixing it.....Like a new motor in 98, tranny rebuilt in 01, new springs and shackles in 07, along with new paint and yea, imagine a 5" thick file of reciepts for tens of thousands of dollars of work dating back to 1979.... The interior looks like it was driven off the showroom (well, almost). It's one of those finds you usually only hear stories about....Well I bought it, and if I told ya' the price i got it for.....:eek1:...:haha:

The question is....what to do with it. I'm really not a big off-roader, though I enjoy going to Moab and messing around on some of the logging roads up here in the mountains. It's probably a little far from being able able to throw it in a car show....but for what has been a daily driver, it's in unbelievable shape. It's so pretty and in such nice shape...it seems almost seems a sin to lift it and throw big wheels on it.

So, I'm looking for suggestions.
Can you say 'Smokey Bear mud-flaps'?

Thanks for any input....

Are you in Frisco, CO?

can anyone else say not safe:confused:

Thanks for the 2 cents Blue ;). Most appreciated.

Yup Lak, I'm in Frisco, CO.

It's mostly safe...

while it's sitting in the driveway...:haha:

4" lift, 15x10, 35" BFG mud t/a's...some rubbing but by the sounds of it you won't be doing anything that would require much flexing.

Nice find by the way...and welcome to the insanity.

Some more tire questions to throw out there. I'm thinking about buying some 35x12.5x15 tires and putting them on the stock 15x8's until I find some wheels I like in my price range. Am I going to be able to drive it with the bigger tires for a few weeks until I get time to install the lift? (Damn, every shop in town is $100++/hr). I tried to kind of measure it out, it's tough to tell....

I went looking at tires and damn, the 37"s look so much bigger than the 35"s.....including the price tag...:eek1:

yea you ever do any other mods to it like a cage or leave it like that? lol

Dude, that sounds like me! Paid 750.00 and all it needed was a starter!!!!! Ha......old people!

i would drop off the running boards, bug guard, paint the bumpers black and run some 32x11.5 R15 BFG ATs on some white wagon wheels.

like what's-his-name with the green one on here. do it like his.

I don't think I've seen the green one, link it if you find it. I have considered doing exactly what you said though. I think it would be a sweet old school look.

The running boards, bug guard and window tint will probably happen by the weekend.

I will probably eventually replace the bumpers, but will paint them (and likely the top) black for now. And if they go black, I was thinking that I should get some black wheels...

Who said this wasn't going to be a money pit? :doah:

Leave all the white stuff and get some white spke wheels with 33's and a four inch lift. Bigger tires and your loosing power until you regear, so think about that if your towing at 10,000 feet...

Here's my .02... first off, shackle flip plus zero rate in the rear, 52's up front with a b52 kit from DIY4X, carefully remove the front fenders(in case you want to go back stock) and buy some used or repro fenders and cut to fit. 35's on stock 8" ralleys for now. You will need better gearing and that will come when you swap in a 14 bolt and either an 8lug D44 or a D60. It's going to happen sooner or later because it has happened to most of us... oh ya, become a member and the madness will be comeplete!

Goodwrench 350. Aftermarket GM motor. Well I know they can be bought, along with Target Master which I have in mine. Very clean.
Glad you got rid of the running boards. I'd stick a set of 15x8 wagon wheels on it. 33 12.5's. Locate a set of sliding back windows. Factory tinted and have fun. Thats what I done with my 78. The 33's have biten into the fenders alittle at full flex on stock springs.

OK, so I'm thinking about either:
A. painting the top and bumpers black (along with the brush guard I have) and throwing on some nice centerlines I have.
B. Buying some big white wagon wheels and painting the brush guard white.
C. Selling this rig, it's a little too nice for what I want to do. I'd much rather have a pre-73 or a 90-91......:haha:

are you crazy!!! haha just kidding. i would keep it and buy another to do everything i wanted to...for this one, maybe a mild lift and 33s to give it some "personality":D

Yea, I know I can buy another one....But I'm already taking up 4 parking spots and one side of the garage.....:doah: Trying to reduce rather than increase numbers.

Really, in trying to keep it somewhat stock, there isn't a whole lot to do to this other than suspension and tires (unless I start customizing)....I should just enjoy it as a stock machine, I guess. But I do have the bug to throw some time and money into a blazer....

Run the 4" lift with 33 12.50s, on 15x10 wheels. It will look tough, and ride decent.

The green blazer is owned by Craig Artenzer? Something rather.

Just dont'....please don't destroy that truck...its too damn nice.

More candy...

Working on it...have added some 33's on some ol' 15x10 Centerlines. Custom grill/brush guard. New ball joints was the biggest pain in the ass (I vow never again)!

Interior is currently in the process...have new factory carpet to go in (light blue..ack) and a matching dash....but am not thrilled on the color.
