stock vehicle...over 100 mph

i thought new model vehicals were supposed to shut down @ 100mph

my stock 05 pathfinder has 140 on the speedo..then about a 5 mph increment to a peg....i had it pegged and thought i had broken speedo, as i let off of it, it took 10-12 seconds b4 it started backing off the peg.

i was told 1 time, that a rule of thumb, if you count seconds before it starts to move, you can figure it is slowing @ 1 mph per sec., so that would put me at @ 150-155-?160? mph in a pathfinder and rpms were still slowly climbing...it doesnt shut down, but i backed down to 120mph and set cruise, i felt the cruise take the pedal and it slowly slowed me to 90mph...the cruise won't set above 90...it will but it sets it at 90..

unfortunatley, i think that only gm's shut down at 100mph. everything else ive driven will go faster.

I believe the word on the street is that GM set it because of the speed rating on their tires.

I wouldn't do over 120 in a pathfinder! Well maybe... Get a GPS or a navigation unit and that will tell you how fast you are going. What size engine does it have. Sounds crazy that a pathfinder would go that fast. 160mph is stupid fast...thats like a football field every 1.3 seconds.

#2: The faster you are going, the faster you will slow down. Wind and road resistance are not linear, which is why the jump from 180 to 200 mph requires a lot more power (or less wind resistance) than the jump from 80 to 100 mph

I concur, a crown vic police interceptor is hard pressed to do 130.....I dont see a pathfinder outrunning a cop on the interstate.....

I also concur, my bro had an 04 pathfinder and there is no way in hell that thing would do 160 mph.

Yea, the police package Charger will do about 155 if the conditions are real good. They usually stop about 148 or so... Maybe they should call nissan instead?

Im with these guys... Just too big, and underpowered. My ram is governed to 104. I dont think there are many vehicles out there that DONT have a governor.

Find out you gear ratios, its pretty simple math. Got a tach? i just dont see it happening.

My stock 95 Impala did 130 with no problem, and I backed off because of a curve in the road. It has z rated tires from the factory, so maybe that is why there was no speed governer at that speed. High speed is not my thing, but I have heard LS1 camaros will do 150 ish.

As tested with the 4.0 V-6 top speed was recorded as 191 (km/h)

119 mph

No factory speedo is anything close to accurate past about 90 mph.

Still faster than my K5... Was your wife OK?

i've checked the speedo against a buddies gps when i 1st bought it(he's moved to tx now tho) and the speedo was correct at 55 & 70 mph and everywhere else we checked it iirc 25 or 35 up to 80 in 5mph increments and it was spot on...it would even show a 1mph increase when i would press the accelerate button once on the cruise. i may can borrow some1's gps and see my top speed...this thing hauls azz, not gonna argue over it tho

Oh yeah, every single article I read spec'd the 2005 4.0 Nissan V6 in the Pathy as 270 hp.

wife still in hospital...so...not sure...on top of severe anxiety, they think she may have heart problems...pulse is anywhere from 140-160 while she sittin still, they told me, it was 174 when she got to er...they gave her 5 nitro pills within the 1st hr she was there.. they started her on beta blockers today
