Hello,

How complicate will be transfering the drive train from a newer suburban 4x4 to 1972 suburban.
Would be an easy swap? Any specific year model that the drive train will fit better in a 1972 chassi?
The idea would be buy a newer suburban as a donnor to all mechanical parts that could be installed on a 1972 Suburban frame.

Thanks a lot

I think that we need pics of the 72 first, before we can answer this question correctly. :D

I haven´t bought a 72 yet. However, I found some already. Im just wondering if it is possible, what is the best model/year, etc before being to late. Is it worthwhile?
Iam looking for a 4x4 roomy and reliable vehicle for a long trip.

The only thing you can transfer easily is the axles, and even those might not be as good as what's under the 72 already. It depends on what each has. The motor and trans could go over as well but how easy it is depends on what's being swapped.

Front axles up to 1987 will swap right into a '72--the rears will fit but you'll need to make shock mounts ,as the later trucks had staggered shocks, the 72 didn't...The T-case and tranny's will interchange, you may need to swap the crossmember thats from the donor truck along with the adapter to the T-case depending on what it has for a tranny & T-case...driveshafts probably will not fit without mods off a later truck,as a '72 Burb has a 129.5" WB I think, not sure what the later ones are, they might be longer--pickups with 8 foot beds had a 131.5" WB..you'll likely need to have some made to fit whatever tranny/t-case setup you end up using...Chevy engines are pretty much the same up until '87,later ones might still bolt in ,but I haven't had much experience with newer than '88 and up thrucks, someone else will need to advise you there...
