I am looking for a little help figuring out the center mechanism that the interior gate latch pushes to open the tail gate.

Has anyone here recently put one together...and I need to know if I am missing a spring or something on that mechanism...just can't figure it out:

I got that illustration...there's too much going on...I still can't see where the stuff goes

The blue one is missing some parts but u can see #57 attaches with one bolt, it just sits there doesn't move. The other pic not real clear but u can see the spring goes up to the mechanism.

that one doesn't look the same as mine

Does this help? It's from my 89 service manual.

I don't think mine has the whole 52 through 59 section, doesn't look familliar to any of the parts I got, I don't have anything that looks like that lockout rod

Yeah...I don't have that curved rod or spring that you see in the middle of that photo, what does that thing do?

It's the lockout rod and spring (53 & 54 in the diagram I posted). Keeps the latch from operating unless the window is all the way down.
I looked at the LMC catalog and all the pieces they list (minus a few minor parts) are the same for all second gens.

Not really sure what it does, never paid much attention to it, would have to open mine up and look.

Edit. That makes sense what rampage said.

I don't think I ever saw those parts when I took it apart...i will go back and look at my tear down photos
