I ovaled out the center holes and it works great. No added RTV and no leaks either...I used the intake gaskets for the 1989 sub that I stole the parts from. The area that is ovaled is above a solid part of the head. If you take too much material out I could see a leakage problem. I used the 400 sbc in my garage as a mock up while I opened the holes. I did just enough to make it work.

I put a TBI setup on my 73 Nova 350, and yeah, had to round out four bolt holes in the center of the TBI intake. I wound up using a machine at the school to also countersink the bolts a touch. I put some copper based thread sealer / anti-sieze compound on all the intake bolts, and I have not noticed any leakage after doing so :)
