Here's a simple fix for a 203 or 205 case that leaks at the speedometer output.....
All the old references to this simple fix pointed to broken gallery links, so I'm posting up the photos here.
Here's a common sight... an oily drip coming from the speedometer output of the transfercase...
The three parts in this photo are:
A. Speedometer calibration box (not OEM) to correct speedo for oversize tires
B. Sleeve with integrated seal/oil scraper - THIS IS THE PART THAT YOU NEED TO CHECK AND REPLACE
C. Speedometer drive gear/shaft
Here is the replacement part you need: AC DELCO #326561... called simply a "Sleeve"
It's difficult to see, but this shot attempts to show the internal oil retainer / scraper that holds the oil from leaking out of the transfercase.
Over time, this seal cracks and deteriorates and allows fluild to escape out to the speedometer cable fitting
For good measure, I took some 2000 grit emery cloth and gave the shaft a good polish in the area where the seal fits (right side in photo) to remove any burrs or defects that might damage the new sleeve.
Here's the speedo drive installed onto the sleeve. There is a satisfying, firm connection between the two parts when the seal is in good condition. You will probably notice the difference from the old part you remove since the old one will probably be loose and fall right off.
Reassemble and give everything in the area a good degreasing (hopefully for the last time). This part should only cost around $21, so you can fix these kind of leaks the "right way" and not break the bank.
