Texaskrew's 84 k-20 build

Nice. I shortened mine to give me 120 and then cut off all the overhang behind the shackles

But I took way less time on the bedsides and they are just skins

In all honesty the longest part of doing the bed sides were just trying to figure out where to cut. The actual cut and weld portion took only 3-4 hours and I feel it was worth it.

We'll see how it looks once I bob the back half, tube it, & finally paint it.

Man...... yesterday was a huge let down....

I've been down at the shop workin' on this thing for the past two days trying to get it ready for a shake down run at my buddies house in Plantersville and I was rewarded with a truck that still isn't ready...

Friday went great, nothing fought me and it seemed to literally fall together, got the radiator/trans cooler hard mounted, all of the wiring under the hood buttoned up, all the wiring in the cab finished, shifter finally solidly mounted.... literally got a laundry list of things finished...

Saturday....not so well...The mount I made for the fuel cell that fits together on the floor, doesn't want to line up once it's in the truck... Had me about ready to burn that turd to the ground...

Oh, and the trans is truely living on borrowed time. I dropped the pan to change a leaking gasket and toss a new filter in there, only to find a bunch of clutch material along with some alarmingly large brass bearing pieces... I've decided I'm going to run it till she dies, so I put the new filter/gasket in & gave it the old mechanics blessing so we'll see how long she lasts :pimp:

After all this crap we fired it up, checked the trans (that surprisingly doesn't slip still and grabs every gear perfectly) & checked for leaks..

This is where it is giving me issues, it will idle/low rpm fine, but as soon as you rev it up past 3500 it wont come back to idle. It's acting like one of the weights inside the distributor is sticking or it has a large vacuum leak.

If I rev it and it hangs, I can shut off the motor, immediately start it back up and it idles normal again...

Any ideas?

Figured out the high idle issues.... It was the linkage for the secondaries.. I felt really stupid after messing with it for an hour & getting pissed to only have it be something so simple..

O-well, live and learn I guess..

It's finals time next week so free time to work on this thing is non-existent to say the least, but I found a few old pics while digging through facebook. Most of these were at Spring Creek Offroad while it was still open.

Well I finished up another semester of college and am looking forward to having a good summer. We spent a couple of days at the shop this past week and were able to get this thing moving around. It drives pretty well, but the steering with the much wider boggers is way to slow. I need to figure out how to remedy that situation, and fix the brakes but other than that, it felt good to drive this thing around.

Hopefully around the end of the month I'll take it to Crosby or Huntsville to do a little shake down run. If anyone around the Houston area is interested in making a run just hit me up on here... would be fun to have a trail day

well, still haven't had a chance to take the truck out but it's getting close. We've been spending most of our free time working on dads 48 Chevy. We boxed the frame, built new engine and trans cross members, and now have the 6bt cummins and the 5 speed in place. Now it's down to finishing the back half of the frame, build the new bed, and mount the new axles. I'm really excited to see this one finished.

Even though it's sort of been neglected I have gotten a little bit done. We swapped over to a full manual brake setup using wilwood 3/4 bore master cylinders.
I'm hoping these are going to work the the stock 10 bolt calipers but we'll see what happens...
Also started work on the front bumper, I'm trying to mimic a low height baja style and think it's coming out alright.

So at this point all that's left is finishing up the front & rear bumpers, trimming the fenders some more, and giving it a good once over then it's ready for some trail time.

Cam is on the edge of not making enough vacuum to run the booster. On top of that the original booster was causing a vacuum leak, and to replace it was more expensive then going to a manual setup.

I thought about looking into hydraulic assist but it was going to be way more than I was willing to spend on just a trail truck.

It's been a while since I've posted anything but it's been a productive couple of weeks as we're trying to get it ready for a small trip with some friends later this month..

For starters I've knocked out most of the "to do" list on the trail rig. Sanded/painted it, fresh fluids, plugs & wires, and half ass finished the front bumper. It needs a brace from the frame to the tube that's under the fender but I pretty much toasted my drill on the tubing notcher.
If any of yall are on instagram I usually post pics daily as its easier than always trying to keep this thread up to date. Screen name is texaskrew

It's definitely been a while since I've posted here. The crosby/dso trip was botched as my buddies trans in his tow rig decided it wanted to puke its guts on the way to the park. Didn't make it where we wanted to go but did end up at his place over in Todd Mission and wheeled on his property for the rest of the day. The truck did awesome for its first trip since the rebuild & we're hopefully taking it to General Sams Friday. If anyone is local and wants to go wheelin' we'll be there all weekend.

Anyone else know how hard it is to plan a wheeling trip with more than 2 friends...:doah:

After changing plans about 100 times we ended up in Crosby for the weekend. With a rag-tag group consisting of a couple of atv's, one sxs, and my truck we wheeled both days & covered just about every trail this thing would fit down.

Only got stuck the one time, but it was pretty nasty. Bad enough the park owner/manager offered to get their trackhoe to come pull it out. Ended up being able to winch itself out though.

sorry for the late response buddy. I'm not on here very often, but the scoop is meant for EB broncos, it was a fiberglass piece I picked up from wildhorses4x4.
