Anybody running this combo or close to it? How do you like it on the street? I'm getting ready to order gears and I am planning on 5.13's but curious on the combo.

I had SM465, 4.56, 37's and it was geared too deep for the highway IMO. I wouldn't go for extended trips past 70 mph because the motor is spinning 3K (your TH400 would be spinning faster because it doesn't have a lockup torque converter).

If you drive on the highway 5.13's will be too low.

3200 rpm at 65 mph with that combo...:eek1: :doah:

As everyone has said it's a good combo as long as you don't spend any time on the freeway.

It sees limited highway. Just back and forth to Rausch Creek which is about a hour drive and it doesn't see much past 55mph.

:hijack: I was driving my 454 th400 equipped c30 dually last weekend. at about 70 mph it was turning 2700 rpm. Am I asking for trouble? :/hijack:

For street use do it. If you pull extended highway time then it may be a little deep. I have a Th400, 4.56's, and 37's and it is ok but I wish I was deeper but my truck is basically a trail rig only. If I had it to do over I would have done 5.13's, especially since I had OD until recently and it is a trail only truck right now.

Your probably fine.

Internal combustion engines can develop some harmonics at sustained high RPM. I remember hearing it with my stock 350 (you could hear the exhaust note change in a cyclic manner every second or so). The problem being that these harmonics can make the piston skirt "slap" into the cylinder wall which is obviously bad for the motor.

High RPM's aren't helping your mileage either :doah:

I forgot to mention, I will be stepping up to 40's sometime in the future. As long as it will do 55 for extended periods I'll be fine I think.
