The 2wd burb thread. Fixed!!!!

2wd big block burb tow rig
that don't look like a 9500# trailer???

Nope my old had forever 7000 lb trailer.

But lots of guys post the what's my towing capacity questions, I have the factory installed hitch and it says 9500 lbs with a weight distribution hitch. I doubt I'll ever be much more than 7000 but who knows

Is the secret out yet?

Well, we did figure out who he met and at least some of what he hauled back.

Then he got back and went silent. Maybe the feds nabbed him right as he got home? Or maybe it was those laser-spewing UFOs that he was talking about in the other thread... :dunno: :1zhelp:

Naw just my head.

Trip report. Afton Wyoming to Chicago and back in a 1989 Suburban!

It was great. Burb had a couple issues that I wanna talk about but this thing is really pleasant to drive.

So biggest issues were I at some point started pressurizing the gas tank. Enough to kill it at idle and once enough to not allow fuel in it for nearly 20 minutes.

Like I said my head has been bad ( big trips do that to me) so I haven't checked much but I was told a plugged charcoal canister can do this. I sprayed the lines going from the tbi to the charcoal canister out and it seemed to help but my milage dropped at least a 1 mpg.

So symptoms are pressurized fuel tank and a mileage drop.

What should I check?

The presurized fuel tank shouldn't make it not run.... My burb used to blow alot of air out of the tank when I pulled the cap. Ever since the day I got it... But it gave me 2 full years of running that way. Before my electrical gremmlins took it out.

If anything I'd think pressure would help fuel feed:dunno:

Get that junk fixed and buy a 10 gallon hat..you might need to go to Texas and pick up a house for me. It comes in boxes and will fit on the trailer

Is there a purge valve on this old of a rig? If so, that could be your culprit. They cause all sorts of trouble on new evap systems.

Texas sounds nice when do I leave? I mean your a small guy but Melanie might want bigger than a tiny box sized house

I don't think there is. It's a pretty simple system

Pretty sure it was the pressurized tank that would kill it. Cause as soon as I took the gas cap off for 15 minutes it was fine.

Also it only died at idle

Taking the gas cap off should have let it start right away then I'd think :dunno:..
I just know my burb always had a pressured tank and ran good that way till I lost spark. It would blow air out around the cap so long that it lasted a few seconds after the cap was fully off. I asked about it a few times on here even because it seemed odd. Changed the cap twice and it still did it so I just ran it.

Basically saying keep your mind open because that may not be it. Lol

Yes good point Rick. Can't get trapped into the it must be this so I'm totally missing the real problem.

The first time it did it seemed pretty normal, couple of seconds, the worst time it hissed for 5 minutes and would spit fuel I was trying to add back at me. Once the cap was off for 15 minutes it would run and I could finally gas it up

Yeah, the fuel on the hand got me a few times too lol. I even pushed the little flap thing out of the way with the nozzle to vent once too

Sure sounds like gas boiling off from hot exhaust. Both the stalling and the pressurized tank. And especially the 15-minute time delay.

I don't think the tiny canister can provide enough pressurized air/vapor to vent for 5 minutes straight. It's a tiny thing.

@ZooMad75, does that sound right?

The one thing about fuel boiling off is it didn't do it the whole way home from Seattle, nor did it do it on the first part of this trip. But a full exhaust has certainly moved up my priority list.

@Z71paramedic it does have a purge valve apparently.

Can't be getting to hot from the exhaust.
Well maybe, however I think the fuel lines run up the passenger side, exhaust is on the drivers side.
Carb'd they run up passenger side not sure if the switched them when they went TBI.

Either way this thing has nothing past the cat.
