Yes, support is fun. When I pitted for a Class 8 truck about three years ago, that was one of the highlights of my life.

:cough:I have met someone here in OK that is planning on making next year's race as an active participant. Don't know if he will be able to suceed, but I bet an all Okie team would be kind of cool:cough:
 
Chris, LocosMocos will be at "Bone Beach" which is somewhere way south of SF approaching BoLA, I think. Haven't gotten the team map yet. Ours is an open pit, anyone can stop if they need help. We have, hands down, the BEST chef ("Baja Jones") on the pennisula running our kitchen. He keeps it open the entire time the pit is active.

To anyone thinking of chasing or pitting, you do NOT need a trick truck to do it. You need a dead reliable truck, be it stock or not. If your truck will do 1500 miles of washboard roads w/o breaking down you're good to go. Notice I didn't mention a minimum speed. I took my Sub down there 2 years ago. With a TrashMaster 350 in it, speed is not one of it's strong points. It did just fine. I would suggest that you take at least one spare air filter with you. If you end up anywhere near any of the silt beds you WILL need it.

FWIW you aren't running on 2 meter ham freqs. You're on 2 meter business band. Only thing to steer clear of down there in Baja are the freqs the policia use.

Did any of you watch the Dust to Glory trailer? We in the Offroad Racing community are very excited to have it come to the theaters in April. We are hoping that people from other offroad interests will want to see it. What do you all think?

Yeah but it would be a whole lot more fun in a trick truck.
It's also my most reliable truck that will handle washboard roads with no problem at the right tire pressure but 1500 miles is a lot w/TSL's /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Would it make any difference if I told you at most you'd do a couple of hundred of washboard miles?
 
Retro...i've been squeezing watson for info weeks ago....lol. The problem i have is i have a very dependable 79 K5...but time off is the problem this year. Going to phoenix thursday early to deliver of all things a Chalet camper i aquired for free in denver this year...and then we are moving my wifes friend to Junction..got her a job at our freightliner delearship here in junction doing our warranty paperwork...so that blows 4 days of vacation....the remaining week has to be saved for the baby we have coming in march of next year. Otherwise i'd be trembling with excitment to help out as i've done this before. Get ahold of me next year and i'll help out...

The bad thing about this form of motorsports is the longer you hang around it...the better the chances of the awe screw it line coming about as you buy your first used ex race truck...lol. I prepped an ex racer for a dear friend in phx who at the time owned toy box offroad...it was a 73-4ish ford courier...still have the pics of it in my garage....enough of this talk...it reminds me that moving to colorado wasn't the brightest thing i've done in my life...

Dam, If I could find the time somewhere, I'd do it on any tires, round or not. Maybe I could plan it for next year or if something changes?

I love to Baja the Trooper. I just can't keep up with Stephen w/wally and his coilovers.
 
Thanks for the note. Maybe you can offer to help Watson. He's got a load of work to do. I'm worried about the boy. You don't happen to do any body work do you? We have some panels that will need to be painted and I know he doesn't have time.

id love to go help, my truck has some issues that i need to resolve first before it can be reliable for a support truck, manily its with the 4wd. maybe next year if the offer still stands. good luck /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
 
Carrying gas is usually restricted to a single dump can for the chase trucks. I contract with a fuel supplier to drop a predesignated amount of race gas off at each of the BFG pits. Because I run BFG tires, they will pit me for free. On a thousand mile course they'll have eight pits. The reason I need extra trucks is for back-up.I'll have four or five trucks doing active chase. Meaning, they will go all the way down following the race truck, and then I'll have trucks in fixed spots where they will have to drive into the course before the race. On my humble race budget, I can only afford a limited amount of spare parts. This race I'll have two spare trans and transfer cases plus a bunch of misc. parts. The big money teams will have a dozen trans and rear ends stationed along the way plus active chase trucks following.
The time required to do this can range from Tues. to Thurs or, if you go all the way, Sun. Keep in mind that we only race all the way down to La Paz, or the traditional course, every two or three years. Otherwise it's a loop race in the upper half of the pennisula. So, I never know whether or not I can pull this off. IF you can go, this is the time to do it. Yes, next year, if there's any way on God's green earth, I'll attempt it again. On the otherhand, my daughter heads to college and you know what that means!
