The Chicken Truck

Took the truck to a local car show to benefit a local fire dept…won 3rd place in the modified truck class which surprised the heck out of me….

The half doors were a big hit, one little boy came over and said I like your doors but I don’t think they are very safe :rotfl:

Yanked the seat out this weekend in preparation for building a cage inside the truck B454AD8B-A24A-43F7-B04F-8694828B1610.jpeg
B pillar hoop is from the rollbar out of my old blazer, gonna add two door bars and two down riggers to make it 6 point and add a crossbar behind the seat for the time being, will add the diy4x halo and A pillar bars when Kert gets caught up on orders

How's the road manners and on-pavement handling on the Patagonias? Those are currently the leader in my tire selection chart.

They are a good all around tire, only area they aren’t that good is snowy pavement. They get kinda squirly which I blame on the tread pattern….I think they’re a bit heavy compared to other tires.

Been awhile since I updated this, I scrapped the interior cage for the time being after I found out my seat was going to have to be against the dash to fit it….new plan is to get Kerts B pillar this winter and fab up my own halo and down bars to go in front of the dash instead of thru it similar to what Dirk Phillips did on his K20 if any of you remember that truck.

Attended BB and had a blast, it was great to meet everyone, put faces with names and trucks and wheel with some genuinely good guys….the brake booster and steering box didn’t care for BB as much as I did so I have since replaced them both, Redhead steering gear and booster from RA. Everything else performed as good or better than I expected. Like to order up a set of rear shackles from ORD and work out a set of harnesses and seats when I get the cage done.

Dang, I never noticed you were in Penn before, that must have been quite trek to Moab. :yikes:

It was good to meet you and the wife out there. Your truck did good with the carb too. Glad you had fun.

The trek out was well worth it, we had a lot of fun along the way, stopped at the hot springs in Colorado, went to ORD, even saw the worlds largest easel in Kansas.

Yep, only small hills on the east coast now :haha:

Like everyone told me before the trip, the traction in Moab is something that needs to be experienced, climbs that would be impossible over here are not bad at all out there.

The carb was probably my biggest concern going into the trip, and ironically the one thing that ended up really being a non issue

What's your ballpark elevation? I've wondered how it would be to go out there with a carb tuned at (literally) 10' elevation vs Moab at ~4k'.

Roughly 1100 feet here, I was prepared to change jets but the only place I noticed it was in Colorado and it wasn't too bad, just some stumbling (5500 feet approx) I'm sure if I were to try the passes at 12,000 feet it would be a different story. The only time I had any issues in Moab was from rough terrain jostling the fuel around in the bowl, steep climbs and descents were fine.

A correctly tuned carburetor at low elevation should be drivable to 5000 feet without an issue. After that, tuning is necessary to keep it running well.

A couple things:
I noticed at BB on flexy climbs my front driveshaft was rubbing the crossmember just slightly so I fixed that issue:

Apparently the frame twist played hell with my drivers side cab mount (it’s was partially rotted out beforehand) enough to crack the floor above it, so I cut out the drivers side floor pan and replaced the floor support and pan:
