No real updates on this truck lately. I try not to drive it in the winter much unless I need to pull a trailer or need 4wd. The roads get salted here and I want to prevent/ postpone rust as much as possible. I have to say I was worried about how the wide duals would act in the snow, but it does pretty well. I have managed to get it stuck though.
No real changes to the truck over the past couple years. Other than I've broken the NV4500 input shaft twice. I finally got smart the last time it broke and stepped up to an 1 3/8" billet input from South Bend Clutch. I send my clutch disc in to them to have the hub switched from 1 1/4" to 1 3/8" when I upgraded. I also bought the bumpers off Kert's dually and have them installed now.
And I hauled my heaviest load to date. I crossed the scale with this load at 37,850 lbs.
Loving the farm life! It's a ton of work, especially because I have a daytime job also. So everything that needs to get done is on weekends or evenings. Some times I take a few vacation days off from work to work on the farm
The biggest problem is that I don't have enough time to build a replacement. My K5 is needing spme attention and I haven't been able to touch that in 2 1/2 yrs since I've come back to help farm. The land and cattle consume all of my extra time outside of my day job
The front springs and bushings are holding up great. Crossover steering made the axle shift side to side before the wheels were turned, but the front panhard bar took care of that.
I use the truck a lot. We got 8" of snow earlier this week so we've been gathering cattle all week off of pastures to bring home and feed for the winter. I put over 1k miles on it this week pulling trailers.
Being lifted doesn't seem to have any negative effects, unless I have to lift something heavy into the back end.
It's really not all that tall. I only have a 3" block in the back. The rest of the height comes from the tires. New diesel trucks are pretty tall themselves, and my tailgate height is really close to what the new HD trucks are
