Since we are on the subject of rare chevies, how many people have seen an 80's body extended cab? Not a crew, not a single, an extended cab? I've seen two in my life. The first was super clean and I figured it might be a custom job but the second one was beat to hell so I figued GM must have offered them.

I've seen one on a wrecking yard. Looked good on picture, but in real life it was really beaten. It was burned really bad, part of the engine compartment, and whole interior. Maybe it's still there, that would be a nice project :p:

an 80's body extended cab?

I saw one once, in Las Vegas in 1994, it looked stock, not like a custom rod or anything, but I knew chevy didnt make them like that. Never saw another one again.

Just before this thread popped up I spotted a longbed stepside in a junkyard, I wanted to get some pics but I think they crushed it by now.

two more wierd beds:

Is it true the chevy longhorn 67-72 style had a longer than 8 foot fleetside?

and (I've seen these) ford made a camper special or towing special, something like that. The wheelbase was streched from the factory. Not the length of the truck, just the wheelbase.

It only came regular cab, 8 foot fleetside bed, single wheel, 2wd one ton - but the real axle was CLOSER to the tailgate. there was no more room for the spare tire between the rear and the tail gate so they moved it to the passenger side of the bed and made hatch on the side of the bed to access it.

sorry if I got off the main topic... I used to hate those 8 foot stepsides, now I'm starting to think it might be really cool to have one. My truck needs a new bed, I could prolly make one, all I'd have to fab is the flat sides, the fenders, tailgate and the cab end should be the same as a 6 foot stepside.

Chevrolet engineers invented the Longhorn pickup for the big slide-on camper. It would take camper bodies up to 12 feet long. The Longhorn's 8 1/2 foot cargo box was engineered for extra support along its entire length. A 1971 C20 Longhorn is shown. Note the vertical line on the Fleetside's box just behind the cab; that's how much extra length was added to the regular 3/4-ton's box. Most buyers opted for one of the two optional V8s -- the 350 or 400.

Interesting. That picture isn't too terribly old. Looks like an early 90s sub next to it...

My Dad has a truck like that it has a 292 and a 4-spd very neat I've never seen another one

i finally saw the elusive longbed stepside today. i wish i had a camera with me because it looked like it was in great shape. it was the pre 81 style front end and it was painted a forest green color. i just thought it was cool because in the 16 years i have been playing with chevy trucks i had never seen one.

also i noticed some people in the above thread were talking about conversion ext. cab 73-87 style pickups and was wondering if anybody had any pics

I saw another vehicle the other day that I hadn't seen before, I'll have to get it off my camera phone later...

are the 67-72 longbed stepsides rare? there is a 2wd one owned by a gas station by my house, i think its 3/4 ton

A picture's worth a thousand words...:D But it was a late model furd, there were two of them actually. A mini convoy on the freeway.

an extended cab shortbed super-duty maybe?
EDIT* I meant to say regular cab short-bed superduty. I've heard they are produced overseas

I don't know if it's what you saw. But in Central/South America Ford made (makes?) a version of the F150 with super duty front end sheetmetal. I think they call it an F100.

Looks pretty goofy when you see a reg cab/short bed with the big super duty front appearance.

The long bed steps used to be rather common in the south. Capweld (I think) or at least a welding supply company with black and yellow for the colors used them for hauling the bottles around. I have only seen them in 3/4 ton 2 wheel drives.

The extended cabs were conversions done for dealer orders. There is and 80 model here close by. 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton. Plain dark brown with the rallye wheels. I remember a custom '87 or so in an off-road mag several years ago. It was yellow and had a dash from a '96 or so tahoe in it. Very nice install on the dash. Didn't think to buy it at the time.:doah:

I have also seen that truck. I might have a picture of it, but its gonna take me awhile to find it.

A friend-of-a-friend just got a '77 C30 stepside. 292 w/TH400. The 2 of us have him convinced there is no choice but to convert it to SM465. :D

I have a '66 long stepside. I don't see many of them either. I much prefer its appearance and proportions over the fleetsides.

I believe the 9' stepside (72-older) was the only pickup box you could get on a 1-ton until the Longhorn (fleetside) came out.

Ford's extra-wheelbase pickup is called a Super Camper Special - a 1-ton regular cab exclusive for the 73-79 style trucks.

How ,bout the Bonanza? A buddy of mine use to own a 87 k20 longbed fleetside, sold it several years ago and I have seen maybe 2 since then.
