The free 03 Trailblazer.

Yea rebuilt it myself. It came with a shift kit in the rebuild kit. That thing moves and snaps on the shifts. A new vehicle for sure. Was easy to rebuild but I always get a ATSG book when I rebuild a trans. That way I can make sure I only do it once and as long as I keep my grimy hands of the manual they will last me forever. If you buy a book get one from EBay seems to be the cheapest way to get one.

Nice! Thanks!

Got a new filter gasket and oil all done today...still the same.

Got good reverse 1 2 shifts perfect 3rd is slow to go in and revs up before it does... if you let off in goes in better, no OD.

Losing third and 4th gear is the most common failure there is on a 4L60E, I'm guessing you will ne to put a build on this one. Be sure the build includes a new AFL valve in the valve body, Sonnax sells a good one, many builders overlook this wear point and lose significant line pressure through this bore.

Thank`s for checking in on this Greg!
I might even try to rebuild this one myself!? Are they that hard to do or is that just a bad idea? I have seen used ones for around 300 up to 1700 for a rebuilt 4l60e but I cant seem to find out what years of 4l60e will swap into a Trailblazer?

The trailblazer uses a unique bell housing and torque converter which limits interchange. There are a lot of wear items to watch for in building one of these. I wouldn't recommend building yourself as your first trans build. The problems of a worn 4L60E go far beyond a normal clutch and band rebuild kit. Ask any potential builder what they do about the AFL and TCC segments of the valve body, If they are not familiar with that go to the next guy.

Ah! Ok that all makes sence. Thank you Greg!

Finally got to fixing this thing....
Got the 4l60e rebuilt and it is working great!

A few things I found out along the way, the Trailblazer is a nightmare to work on! I did not enjoy removing that trans in my garage on jackstands. It sucked! A good tranny jack is awesome! The bellhousing is removeable so you can use any 4l60e you like as long as it is similar in year, for the electronics.

Now that it is shifting good I can start on some of the other little thing that are the matter with it.
So far we have just under 1000.00 bucks into it. I got the trans rebuilt by a retired dude for a good price.
