The Green Machine - parked

I was because of leaks, I fixed them and now it's back to about 1,000 miles a quart. But can't have a smoky truck in a place that does emissions testing.

Riley, I need some info on your rear driveshaft if you don't mind. Who did you have build it? And do you have any of the specs as far as length?

I forgot how long it is, but I had Tom Woods build it. It's a cv style with a flange at the t-case.

Ok, thanks. Tom woods is probably who I'm going to go with as well. and JBC conversions on the SYE kit correct? Have you had any issues? Anything you would have done different?

The only thing I would have done different is bought a transfer case with a flange front output instead of a yoke, and I would have done the transfer case swap long ago had I known it was so easy.

Thank you Riley for the info! And in return: My transfer case was like yours with the front yoke instead of the flange. I had a np208 laying around from a '85 3/4 ton along with its front drive shaft. I removed the yoke from the np241 and the 208 flange bolted right up, and to boot the front driveshaft was the right length and fit as well. So if you stumble across an old 208, I assure you the front output flange will fit the your 241.

Detroit locker or orb of traction (ie welded)?

Bear in mind this will be a trail rig from now on, trailered to Moab several times a year, but I will drive it up to 100 highway miles locally to get to trails near here.

If your doing any highway driving knowing what your rig is for, I would go with a DD. If you weld the carrier and drive on the highway, you will wear the crap out of the tires or worse break something pavement driving. My 2 cents.

Detroit all the way. Too easy to install, and not that expensive of an upgrade. Detroit is what I am running and I've been pleased with it so far. Weld it and you will regret it.

Oh, and don't plan to trailer it. Plan to drive it. But that's my 2 cents.:burnout:
Also this^^^

I am trying to get back to the point to where I can drive mine more if need be(minus full hydro steering[if it ever happens]). Some stuff has killed the ease of driving for longer distances, and I'd like to reverse that a bit.

I have another vehicle to drive daily now, so this become my toy, plus, it's not very good on the highway and I was beating the crap out of it daily driving it. And my biggest hold up on the trail is the idea that I needed to drive it home.

Yep, there's always going to be that trailer it vs drive it debate. Most would trailer it, but I'm that guy who would rather drive it. regardless of that, you're not going to be hitting a trail every day. And you will have a lot of time and coin invested in this machine sitting in your driveway. There will be days you'll want to drive it to work, or to the store, or to a show. For that reason I say don't do modifications that affect its drive ability on the street. You never want to be miserable behind the wheel of your own build.

May I ask why it isn't good on the highway?
And how were you beating it up?
I understand that it isn't the same as your new truck, but I figured that it was pretty decent!

It doesn't have sway bars, and there's still some roll steer so it gets petty bad in a bumpy corner. And I drive 30k miles a year, and on an original engine and trans in a nearly 20 year old truck was getting more than it could handle. The radiator has a leak. And it's pretty much right where everything will start going wrong with it, and that's not a good combo for an only vehicle daily driver.

I love the Green Machine, but it was time to make something else my daily.
