That's the TV cable. Take it off at the carb. Pull it forward, and it will pop off the carburetor linkage. Hold the linkage closed.

heheHold the throttle closed with one hand, pop the cable off with the other.

Did you ever get a new transmission during the summer?
Swapping out the trans can be intimidating the first time. It's always a learning experience and having someone with experience to help you is really helpful. Last year I blew up a 700R4 and got me TH400 from the junkyard, rebuilt it and swapped it out. It was quite a challenge but now I have more confidence in doing stuff like that. Plus I can tell what's wrong with stuff easier now so that I can fix it myself and save lots of money. I'm not naturally into that kind of stuff either. Trust me, I'm the type of guy that can't even let the hood up without breaking something. I've learned lots of stuff since I got my old truck. You'll get there too.
Yeah pretty much. It does need a transfer case with a 32 spline input, but you can swap your current NP208's input shaft to a 32 spline. I also had to set up a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the TH400's vacuum modulator. You don't have to use one, but if you don't, the trans won't shift into second until 30 mph and will hold it until 55 mph. But the cooler lines bolted up without too much bending and the torque rod thing did too. I also had to rig up a 12 volt wire from the brake pedal so it would down shift when I got on the gas like it's supposed to. I know this sounds like a lot but it wasn't too bad. I feel like I could do it again a lot easier since I know what I'm doing now.
I had a thread that told what all I went through to get it working.

It was awesome to have my dad helping me. He's a GM guru who's rebuilt hundreds of TH400s and TH350s. He's also done some TH700R4s, but he said he wasn't impressed with them at all. He's the one that gave me the idea to go to the 400 instead of rebuilding the 700R4 that was in the truck.
It's super helpful. The easiest thing would be to get yours rebuilt or get a rebuilt one just like it and put it in. You could take it to a shop and have them do the swap but it would probably cost more than what the truck is worth.
Sounds like a plan. That way you know you have the right adapter and all that. Plus they'll probably work with you if you put it in and it quits on you after like one day or something.
That would suck. There's a way to adjust the throttle valve cable that's important to get right. If you mess it up, it will burn the tranny up in a hurry. You may want to do a search on that. Hopefully you won't have to mess with it and it will work with no adjustment.
