this is a pretty exciting thread, i personaly dont like the truck, but i know allot of hard work and time went into building it. belive me i know me and ym dad are working on restoring trucks, it aint easy and its allota work and frustration to get the stuff to fit right. If the owner likes it thats all that matters...that being said in the C**n area of where i live there is a realy nice k5, except its been lowered and im pretty sure still has the 4x4 components under it

Thanks for the identification on the truck guys, maybe there is a site that lists the identifications of the trucks, I'll have to look. Oh, and I threw the grill out normally because I believe for the same year there can be many different patterns, same shape and location but the pattern can be different. Just look at LMC or ChevyDuty (exucse me, classic industries) and see what they offer, it's a ton of stuff.

there are no "different patterns" within a single year. and the only way to tell them apart is to look at a bunch of them and get to know what's what.

During the 67-72 truck range there was only 3 different style grilles, 67/68...69/70...and 71/72, those grouped years had something different and distinguished about each group.
Heres an 67/68...
Notice the hood doesnt have as much definition and the drill has a band that is skinny and molded into the fenders.
Heres a 69/70...
More defined hood and fender, thick aluminum band that goes across the grill.
Heres a 71/72...
notice same style hood and fenders, different grill known as the "egg crate" style grill (my favortie personally). The blinkers got moved into the bumper as the 69 grill had them in the grill band.
Theres a way to tell each difference between the year groups but I dont remember, I do know that in 72 they moved the rear view mirror from the inside cab mount to a windshield mount in 72.

That was very informative, I think we should have a section on identification like we do for axles. It isn't as common of a "problem" to identify a vehicle's year but it sure wouldn't hurt to have it.
Something I did notice though is that you can just use the blinker lights for all three years not just the last one like you mentioned.
67/68 is in the corner
69/70 is in the center insert
71/72 is on the bumper
