I had a single 3" for a while - didn't like it, I'm back to 2.5.

Shackle flip and snaking the tail pipe over the axle, out before the gas tank and over the spring to a little higher than stock location works for me.

I have TES headers, and spark plug changes are a PITA, and it's not the inner fender that's in the way, it's the header itself. #8 in particular is a lot of fun; guess I need smaller hands...

By no inners I meant I can access the #8 plug by going between the tire and the fender rather than from the top.

As for the sound of the Super 40 I do not drive it everyday so I can deal with the loudness. I have been told it is not that bad nowhere near as load as a regular 40 series.

i can vouch for that, i just put 40 series flows on my truck, 2 of them and it sounds like a musclecar. Wish i went quieter, but atleast i dont drive daily anymore.

Don't mean to get off topic but whos truck is that (the blue one)? Could I see more pics please.:D Also I have the series 40 on my truck and it gets pretty loud at load.

Are those the Edelbrock TES headers? I've been looking into those for my '87, since it's hard to find a smog legal header for it. They're $409 though, which seems a little pricey. Does anyone know of cheaper smog legal headers? Preferrably without a Y-pipe, since mine is custom and I'd just have it modified to fit the headers anyways. I wonder if Edelbrock would sell me the headers by themselves, and how much that would cost...

ira, im not sure if i like that setup or not. wheres the end of it? does it just point down? it just looks funny to me, but it does get it up and out of the way.

It actually drops down and exits at the rear corner

I might just run it right under the frame rail and then out the drivers side after the shackle just below the body. I guess I will have to get my pieces here and mock up a few different ways. I am welding my own together out of premade bends that I will cut as needed so I can run it anyway I want:D.

God I can't wait to get my truck back on the road. I'm running 2.5 with high flow cats and flowmaster 40s. It sounds really good. During the summer I get sooo many people looking at my truck it's awesome.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, the Super 40 is VERY loud. I have to drop down to an idle when driving past the fuzz, because the last thing I want happening is them pulling me over for a loud exhaust, then writing me up for no mud flaps while they're at it. That would ruin my day...

really? ive got 3" throughout with a super 40 and i wish it was louder:dunno:

Louder!?!? Well, in that case you'll have to look into some race mufflers. I was looking into a race Dynomax straight-through muffler for mine, but after seeing one, I knew it would get me in trouble. Or you can always go with cutouts, that way it's loud when you want it to be.

The reason yours is so loud is that you have it dumped right after the muffler and it is dumped under the passenger compartment. All of the noise just bangs around undernearth the truck making it really load inside. The longer the tailpipe after the muffler the queiter it is inside and out. I will run a super 40 with a tailpipe with side exit behind the wheel. I think it will get me the sound I am looking for.

I put a 3" in/out Super 40 on the wifes 2002 Avalanche and dumped it right before the rear axle. She and I both think it sounds great.

These should work yeah?

Hangers

I think these are stainless, do I need stainless wire in order to weld these? Or will any MIG wire weld stainless. Kinda noob question but I remember having to use stainless rod when stick welding stainless it is the same for MIG welding stainless?
