throwing belts, high rpm.

i'm changing the pulleys to something else. i got them as close to aligned as possible.

deeper groove racing pulleys might help. moroso has some, or for the super nice stuff look at cv products or jones pulleys. you might want to try to add some sort of cover to keep the mud out as well. it dont take much debris to throw a belt either.

i do need to make some more mud shields for under neath the truck, but the first 2 weekends it started throwing the belts, there was no mud anywhere on the engine. the bog this last weekend, mud gets everywhere, it's really sloppy and thin.

You are using cheap belts aren't you? Go get yourself a good GATES V-belt and as long as your pulleys are straight and aligned your problem will probably go away. I've seen it happen more than once, even with brand new belts. Autozone (and other cheap) belts suck. People buy a new Autozone belt, with a performance engine, and then the first time they rap the throttle they chuck it right off. The belt is most likely your problem if everything else is right. Gates make the best v-belts. Good year makes the best serpentine belts.

finally got around to installing a set of serpentine pulleys my sponser hooked me up with.
the crank pulley is only about 1" smaller in diameter, and the alt. and power steering are about the same size. these are 6 groove pulleys but i could only find a 6 groove belt for the alt so far, i have a 5 groove belt on the pump.

i'll try these out this coming weekend and see if it's any better. if not, i'll try to find a smaller crank pulley yet. the v-belt pulley i had on there was over 7" in dia.

well, they stayed on for 6 passes thru the pit. the truck didn;t have to really dig in this weeks mud though.

the belt on the power steering pulley did start to try and come off, it has one rib off the edge of the pulley.

this sunday is another bog, and it's longer so we'll see how it works. i think there is too much drag from the hydroboost and it creates slack for it to crawl off the pulley.

when i get some time, i'm gonna convert to vaccuum brakes.
