I have some old tires that I am trying to remove off the rims. the tire is stuck around the bead area really freakin good. is there any type of way to get the tire material off or is the rim wasted. ?

you mean you just have to break the bead? use a hilift jack on the tire and under the bumper or something, that will break that bead.

or if theres rubber left on the bead seat then just buff it off with a wire wheel or something.

you can position it to where the tire is under your trucks tire and run it over to pop the bead off.just dont run the rim over.i used to do this on hummvee tires if they would not pop off real easy.a heavy sledge on the tire close to the bead will work also.

i have already tried the running over. the tire is stuck to the rim. who knows how long it has been mounted. i am trying screwdrivers and chisels. is there a chemical that can be used ?

take em to a tire shop or if you know somebody with a changer let them break the bead.

pb blaster is good.

thay make a lube / breaker chemical called ( skid ) works wounders.

or best bet bite the bullet and take them to a shop. even if 10 bucks per tire you have wasted that much in your time already. :doah:

well I finally did :D. I soaked the edge in wd-40 and just used a screwdriver. and worked around the edge and it came free . As far as taking it to a shop, dont take anything to a shop if i can do it myself, including the help of ck5 and suggestions . Plus my time is free and cost me nothing. So I got the old tire off and now i have the new one half on. I will tackle the rest tomorrow evening.

thanks all.

i have a set of stock steel 16.5's that i can't budge, i took them to the tire place i use, their machine wouldn't break the bead off the rim, next day i took them to a local place that does semi & tractor tires...the bead wouldn't budge, the machine ripped the sidewalls, but the bead still stuck! they laying out behind my shop w/tires still on the rim. guess i'm going to have to cut them w/something,..any ideas...they've been soaked w/oil, for couple weeks b4 i gave up and took them to the tire shop. :dunno:

the tire I removed was stuck real bad. I actually used a sawsall and cut the tire of about an inch from the rim. then I sprayed wd40 around the edge and let it soak for a couple hours. then took a large screwdriver and drove it around the edge while tapping with a hammer, about 15 minutes of prying and what was left of the tire fell off. I Flipped the rim over and repeated the other side.
all in all about an hour worth of my time.
