A d60? To build the one I have the way I want is going to cost as much if not more. Then if I order one from say Boyce equipment.

When I did a solid axle in my 08 2500HD I ordered up the 79 ford front D60 through them, mainly because of how hard of a time I was having finding one close enough that someone wasn't asking 1500 bucks for needing a total rebuild. It ran me a little over 3K to have it shipped to me I think and last I checked its still rocking and rolling and the trucks on it second owner.

But for a chevy 60 it would really come down to time/money Id say. Id call em and get a total of what you want shipped to you, then tally up what you would have to put into the one you have and see what it adds up to

Buying USED is always going to be cheaper than building. What all are you wanting for specs? Surely you could find one already fully built locally for less than $3k like greatwhitez71. For that kind of money you could buy a used one already geared, locked, trussed, and full chromo shafts with CTMs or Superjoints. Heck for $3k you could probably buy a really nice SET of fully built axles.

Going rate for a good condition SET of chevy tons in my area with 4.56 gears or deeper, lockers, etc is $1,500-$2,000 with the normal goodies like diff covers, pinion guard, perches or link brackets, etc.

i got a builder 60 here on shop floor ready for someone in the east coast . pm me if you wana deal .

and if stockish buy used and refresh it .

if you wana go crazy with beefy parts / gears / traction devices just buy 1 built to your specs .

I have a dually sitting on the shop floor. Which needs to be completely gone thru. Hubs, brakes, kingpins, gears, locker, stubshafts , you get the idea

I would love to find one all done for that kind of money. Not around here]

locker = lockright work great and hold up fine in 60 fronts.

hubs = leave drw and just run H1 rims and bolt on 3-4 inch spacers on rear to take up the width difference.

these 2 can save you a lot of coin .

Might be worth it to buy an axle or set off an offroad forum and have them shipped via Fastenal store to store. Bet you could have a used one shipped from anywhere on the east coast for $200-300 via Fastenal.

What specifically are you looking for as far as gears, shafts, & hubs go?

513's 35 spline shafts, arb, need to switch to single wheel hubs rotors. It needs calipers and pads, they are junk. Not going to do the H1 spacer thing. I would like to do it once and be done. Well your never really done!LOL.

For what it's worth I bought a dually d60, took the hubs off and turned them in a lathe...now there srw. I added a steel disc on the wms area and welded that on, then skim cut it and now it's perfect. If you want to go that route I can give you specifics.

I'm also still rocking 30 splines and stock lockouts on 40s...one upgrade at a time for me.

I thought about if I could find a 60 that is in running order and had 456's to match my rear. I would go that route and do the upgrades later.

When I got ready for a Dana 60 I looked around for cucv axles. There is a member here, goes by muddog, that was and may be still parting out the army trucks. he had a whole bunch of low mile sets with 4.56 gears and rear Detroit lockers and iirc a couple of the 60s had posi's.

Anyway I got two sets from him that were in perfect running condition. One set had brand new brakes and has been in my dd for roughly 6 months now. He's in Kansas so I was local enough to meet and pick them up but he uses a shipping company that is super cheap on freight. Seems like under $200 a set for most of the quotes I saw from him. You might check with him or browse the for sale section and see if he's got any, super great guy to deal with.
