The truck: 1983 Gmc 3/4 Ton K2500 6.2l diesel th400 np208 Corp 10 up front and 14 bolt in rear.

No idea where to start. I want to keep it as cheap as possible.

What should I do?

What should I buy?

Links of kits for the swap?

What motor?

Can I keep the original drivetrain or do I have to replace it with something else?

Should I buy a dodge as a donor?

What prices am I looking at?

What you need..hmm. the search button..

Just kidding, but seriously. I've read so much cummins swaps here on on 67-72 chevytrucks.com I don't know where to start.

It really can't be too cheap unless you get the donor truck for next to nothing. The more complete your donor the better off you'll be, having to buy things like an intercooler, plumbing, transmission/t-case parts etc. adds up quick.

The 12 valves ('98 and older IIRC) are the easiest because they're not computer controlled for the most part.

Ballpark price for a donor engine/tranny/t-case is ~$1500 and up, more if you want the more desirable parts. It will end up costing way more than that.

The swap itself is actually pretty easy and the motor fits in the Chevy truck pretty well.

Thank for the helpful info! Is a Dodge Tranny/T-case a must have or can I keep my chevy drivetrain?

It's not too terribly hard to adapt a 4BT or 6BT to a TH400 but in my opinion it's not really worth it. A Cummins without an overdrive (hell, without at least 5 gears) isn't super useful in my opinion.

The "bread trucks" that had 4BT's and TH400's didn't go fast, ever. So, for that application, the TH400 was ok. For highway use, that combo isn't real good: they sacrifice MPG and speed.

FWIW I don't think a 10 bolt will be real happy under a 6 cylinder Cummins either, regardless of tire size.

Figure around 4000-6000.00 for the swap depending on what you pay for your donor and other goodies
