I can get by with with a screwdriver and socket set, but I need to use a spring compressor tool that I don't want to buy. Like this one: http://www.monstertrans.com/store/products/GM-Transmission-Rear-Clutch-Spring-Compressor-Tool.html

It seems like it'd be fairly simple to make one. Any idea what the length of the lock-bar is (or whatever it's called, the top bar that locks the tool into the case lugs)? I haven't finished cleaning the tranny yet, so I haven't started tearing into it yet, which is why I can't just measure the inner diameter of the tranny at the case lugs.

I'm in a bit of a time-crunch because my roommate can make one at his current job, but he'll be leaving for the summer at the end of the week.

Or, if anyone has another way to compress the springs, let me know. Or, if anyone knows where to rent one for a reasonable price.....

Thanks.

I know that some auto parts stores like Oreilles loan out specialty tools. You usually have to leave a deposit and they are not always in the greatest shape but work. I have borrowed their ball joint press and socket for 14bff wheel bearing nuts.

Tools "needed"? I rebuilt a couple with just normal snap ring pliers, a couple c-clamps, and some flat head screw drivers.
