Ok guys, I have stared at this, thought about it, searched and tried everything to get this freaking thing back on my Jimmy (1970, inserted from top) and I cant get the tie rod to clear the front leaf springs, need like one inch to get the actual tie rod end in the hole, there has to be a trick to get this thing seated right? Sure wasnt a problem removing it, and now it wont go on, so close to finishing the front end rebuild and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Assuming it's all stock, turn the wheels (knuckles) in/out so they're laterally away from the springs. This could give you a bit more room to work with. Start with the threaded end horizontal, pointing towards the back of the vehicle, and kinda roll it backwards and down.

Also, if your springs are stock, i.e. negatively arched, it might be helpful to lift the *frame* of the truck, to let the axle droop some, might give you more clearance from spring to knuckle.

will give that a whirl tonight, I hope to he!! that I dont have to screw it on all the way, that is worst case scenario because those knuckles arent coming back off, probably hose up the ball joints, etc...thanks!

jacking up the frame should do it. worst case, you could always loosen the spring bolts to let the axle fall away a bit too.

thanks a million guys, it works! Combination of everything fixed it, never thought about turning the wheels but makes sense from a lever perspective...too bad I cant find the freaking moog boxes that the zerks, cotter pins and castle nuts are in because wifey decided to clean up my area for me while I was out of town saturday...how many times have you said to your spouse please dont touch my stuff, I dont touch yours, "organizing" - too bad she can never remember where or what, sheeet!
