Torque Converter for a Th400 (Help)

Hello,
As many of you know I have a Th350 and I was planning on putting a 2900 stall Torque Converter in there. Well I may be changing my plans. I may be buying a TH400/NP208 combo. Well I need new Torque Converter my stock one will not work in a TH400 nor will my 2900 stall. So what do you guys think about putting a 1700-2000 stall Torque Converter in a truck. I want a Torque Converter that wont burn my tranny up. But I want to be able to launch and have people that are in the truck go what the F**k was that?

2900 is damn lot of stall dang.,

how much cam and what gear and such you runnin ?

Sure a converter will burn a trans up, thats one of the reasons to run a tranny cooler.

If you are in the stall speed of the converter all the time (like cruise RPM's are 2800 and you are running 2800 stall) AND its not a locking converter, you will generate a LOT more heat than you would with a stall nowhere near your cruise RPM.

I think i replied to your last post..
a 1700-2000 stall converter is much more reasonable than a 3,000 stall converter.. its probably a better idea because if your cruising on the freeway you should be above 2,000 or so and the converter won't be flashing and slipping.
I run a 3000-3200 stall in my camaro (cam is 260 degrees duration @ .050 3K-7K rpms) and its sweet for footbraking it and launching it at the track, but its not real street driving friendly especially in stop and go traffic..
i put a slightly higher than stock stall converter in my k5, and i can't really footbrake it and stall it up in 4wd, like i can in 2wd to do a brakestand or launch it. However when i'm wedged in some rocks in 4wd i can feel the tranny slipping more and you have to rev it up higher to overcome the stall.. it creates quite a bit more heat.. i've seen guys in the rocks with a 3000 stall once it hits that rpm it shockloads the axles and breaks ujoints.
