Trailer hitch install - nut and bolt sizes

I have a full size 85 GMC Jimmy. I had to replace my fuel tank and in the process of removing the hitch two of the bolts broke. Problem is that this was about 8 months ago and just now finally got the bolts out and have no clue where I put the others. What size bolts do I use for that, and do you think I can buy this at the auto parts store? What grade bolts do I need if I wind up at the hardware store?

I assume the bolt goes in from the top and a lock washer and nut mount from the bottom??? Correct?

Pretty sure you're looking for 1/2" grade 8 bolts. That ought to do.

Make sure to use stover or nylock nuts. I doubt I’ll ever use a lock washer again.
