I'm finally getting around to building ramps for my car trailer and looking at what thickness of steel to use. I have available to me 2 1/2"x2 1/2" angle in both 3/16" and 1/4" thicknesses. They will be ladder style 12" wide by 2 1/2" high and either 48" or 60" long. I'm limited to no more than 2 1/2" in height seeing the storage slots are 2 3/4"x 12 1/4". I'd like to go 60" to give me better angles with my Monte Carlo which is lowered and my Camaro which is even lower. I'd appreciate any insight from more experienced fabricators.

The 3/16" is plenty unless you are going to be moving equipment. The longer the better for loading clearance.

I'm petty much maxed out at 60" due to the storage tray dimensions. I figured I'd be fine with 3/16 looking at specs for pre-made ramps available online but wanted some validation from more experienced fabricators. I do have enough metal to build a second set with !/4" for heavier items.

I would do 1/4” main rails and 3/16” ladders.
Less likely to bend and not TOO heavy.
Keeps ya in shape!

I've been leaning that direction. I need to get a welding cart fabbed up for my new welder too.
