89 jimmy, transfer case output shaft always leaks, not much but still annoying. changed that seal like 3 times already. only 2.5 in lift and 32 tires. is it possible that leak is the actual front part of the drive shaft where it meets the first u-joint. looks like shaft is hollow with a cap on the end there?

Yep, the splines in the Yoke start to wear and then fluid can pass the splines and leak out of the small hole in the end plug of the Yoke. You should also try to see if the vent for the trans is clear of any obstruction as well (that can be hard to do as it is a small plastic tube on the top side of the case).

nice! will that same yolk u refer to fit my truck? how long has it been since u replaced with no leaks?

A few months ago... it's fixed. That yoke was for my NP 205..... not sure what you would need... call them.

The Yoke he gave a link for says it fits NP205/208/241. The only questionable portion is if it is for the correct u-joint for your Blazer (the one linked is for a 1310 joint and i'm pretty sure yours is not a 1310). I would just give a call to Driveline Service in San Leandro, their number is 510-352-3500.

EDIT: This is the actual slip Yoke that your rig uses. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p75...r_case_slip_yoke_np_205_208_241__32_spli.html

ya I work with him. I moved from Fremont couple years ago. You did some work for me at the machine shop a good while ago. I have the white jimmy.

While I don't remember you, small world for sure. I no longer have the shop, I was kinda forced to close September 16th 2009. The building is now a dentist office owned by Habib or someone along those lines.

I have this same problem. Transfer case leak seems to come from the u-joint! Sprays all over under my truck. Always has a small puddle (very small like 1 inch in diameter) on the ground under the u-joint after I park it.

I've heard (and seen in pictures) on cars (2wd) that there is a weep hole in the tranny output shaft in the center of the end-cap at the u-joint. But when I looked on my truck there is no hole. Where is this fluid coming from?

I'm worried that when driving it leaks pretty good becuase the other day I checked my transfer case level and I couldn't even feel any fluid with my finger in the fill hole.

Can you see a weep hole in the end of the your output yoke (inside the u-joint?) if the yoke linked to earlier in this thread would fix my problem that would be awesome!

My '89 does the same thing from it's NP241 tailshaft. Leaks out past the seal and then down onto the shaft. It's all over the floorboards and a big oval around the area.

I keep an eye on it and basically let it be. It's very common. Figure it's rust proofing.

Aj you're right it has been good rustproofing! That is the strongest area of my floor boards! So are you saying it is leaking past the output seal on the transfer case and then running down to the u-joint and that is why it looks like it is dripping from the ujoint itself? Would a new slip yoke and output seal fix this then?

Might. Someone mentioned the splines wearing a bit and the ATF running past them after that. Makes sense as mine got a new GM seal and bushing the summer of '09 and it didn't stop it at all.

If mine sits for a while you can see a little drip at the u-joint. After it's been driven you can sorta see how everything back there is wet but no drips.

this issue is very common with the older GM trucks. Try to replace the little round seal first. If that doesnt work...replace yoke. I fought with this problem for a while.... and I really hate leaks... but it's dry as a bone now.

I had the same problem with my '82. I had my NP208 rebuilt by SCAAMCO & when I got it home it leaked. I took it back & showed them. They took off the yoke and put a seal in it.
They advised me that if it continued to leak I would have to replace the yoke. I like the one K5FLA posted. I will go that route when it's time.

While I had my d-shaft apart to replace the u-joints I welded a bead around the cap in the center of the yoke. Was it the right thing to do? prob not. But it doesn't leak anymore.

Common occurrence is the misconception that the 208/241 is suppose to have 5 quarts of fluid in it when it is in fact suppose to have 5 PINTS. This can cause excessive seal pressure and cause the slip yoke to seep.

I had the same issue. Speedi Sleeve fixed it. Most bearing and seal suppliers Cary them. Easy to install.
