well the dealership to no surprise told me to go fly a kite..

so I have a 07 with 24,xxx miles and a tranny with a "catostophic failer":doah:

from what I read online people are running these trans with 1000 hp from the factory and they live a while.

so do I get a remanufatured and slap it in

have it rebuilt...

or have it rebuilt with upgrades:D

with the dealer reman tranns I have zero warranty on it being what im putting it into, having it rebuilt seems not as good as a reman but i could find a tranny guy to warranty it im sure. Having it built is piece of mind rather that having to do this again. But I dont see the use I put it under as being the problem, this thing is so computer controlled you cant even burn out or even do an n-drop if your life depended on it. I have no idea what failed, but even if I was trying to murder it I think it should have lived longer.

also plan to regear, I love having 4.10s on the highway but maybe with 38's it loaded it too much on the street?

GM remanufactured is the only thing I would consider.

38's are too much for 4.10's with that auto but you would expect it to last longer than it did. You need to change diff gears to have the trans last.

How does the factory reman'ed trans not have a warranty? IIRC the rebuilt 4L60E's have a 3 years/36K warranty, I would think the 4L80E's would have the same :dunno:

problem is how can I warranty it?

I would much rather have a reman than a rebuild.

cost is not the issue I just dont want to deal with this again anytime soon

What do you mean? It sounds like GM has denied your factory warranty for whatever reason.

I would much rather have a reman than a rebuild.

What is the difference to you? Those two terms are exactly the same in my eyes.

What is the use of the truck? Why did it fail in the first place?

In general, I wouldn't trust a "rebuilt" 4L60E/4L80E/4L85E as far as I could throw it. Maybe just my experience but I doubt it.

my question is how do I get a reman tranny from chevy serviced under warranty if they wont warranty the one in my truck.. since I would be installing it myself I am not sure how that would work should I need to have it repalced again.

why the tranny failed..I drive it hard, but come on 24xxx?hte 38s might have been working it but they have only been on it for a 1.5 months abd most my driving seems to be highway. I dont know exactly how it faled, the fluid is not burnt but there is metal shaving on the dipstick when I pull it up. seems like a bearing rather than a clutch pack.

The trans shouldn't have failed that quickly regardless. That is unexpected but I'm not surprised that GM doesn't want to cover it (and you shouldn't be either).

Any GM remanufactured trans should have a warranty with it but (again) the warranty may be void due to tire size.

You can look elsewhere for a "built" 4L85E but I have very little faith in autos built by aftermarket companies. Just my experience and my .02

I have an '05 Dodge Ram and you hear nothing but bad stories of these trans failing with stock motors, and that's with the 'toque management' helping to lighten the load of shifting. They just don't make them like they used to!

Have you considered a performance option of an earlier trans, like those offered by BowTie Overdrives and Raptor?

Hey shawn, call Nate at solid shift transmissions. Not the same Nate, I have been doing a bunch of business with AZTPI, and I got a newsletter from them, and they said that this guy knows his chit. He is getting all there business, and apparently he can build trans to hold up to 1500 fl/lb of torque. Anyway give him a call 480-986-3600. that's my 2 cents.

friend with 1ton box vav dually had his 4l85 just drop at 35k miles. thay said no reverseand 4th gear. and all he hauls is little debbies candy products. he has a sals route. its a 06 or 07 van with 6.0l gas.

i would find a good tranny shop and go from there. f%ck gm or any others if thay cant handle the small problems we throw at them with moded stuff. and what you did didnt kill it. it had a bad part that let go.

His truck is built to the hilt with a SAS and sitting on 38's. I'm betting they took one look at it and said, "we're not covering it...but we'll put a new trans in."

However I bet a case could be made that it is Chevy's fault and not his...but good luck fighting that battle.

I'd go with a good rebuild by a local shop. The GM remanufactured one is just going to be made to the same specs and made with the same parts as the one that just failed. If the aftermarket can build super dooper trans to take drag racing and hi-po diesel motors they can rebuild a 4L85E to take the abuse of your tires and foot.
You do need to regear though. At LEAST 4.56's and more likely 4.88's.

If you don't go with the place recommended above a good tip I was given once is to call your local cop shop's garage and ask where they get the cruiser's trans rebuilt at. Cop cars go through transmissions like it's cool so the shops that do their work generally know their ****.

im going to call some of the recomended shops, ill figure ill try to tell gm to prove to me the modification I made caused it to fail.

all they can tell me is it had a catostophic failer..NO SH!T the thing stoped reversing and then no forward motion.

option two is to pick up a used tranny with 11k miles for a grand, and it gets my truck alive this weekend, plus I could have the damaged one built and it wont be a time issue. maybe even save one for the buggy but my mind was on a 400.

ahhhhh

Well, good luck on that. It's going to be pretty easy for GM to say that the mods (mainly the big tires) could directly affect the transmission. It's not like they are denying the warranty on the trans because you have a K&N air filter.

Yeah, just taking my Dodge out of the U.S voided the warrenty. Go figure! Anything to get out of spending money eh.

Is Dodge/Chrysler even in the UK?

Pull up with your truck into a place that's only ever seen Neons, minivans, and 300M's...

SOOOOOOO

i dropped some money and bout a tranny from a 3/4 ton 07 exspress van, I got it for 990.00 with a 6 month warranty.

my sinking feeling is that the vans may have a few differantinternals or maybe at least a different tq converter.

I hope I just did not buy a paperweight:crazy:

going to be a looooooooong night

installing the new trans tonight, out side all by my lonesome:(

i just pray it does not rain:crazy:

we shall see what the morning brings..

well ended up not starting till 3 am since i went out last night:doah:

who the hell made these so heavy? i had to stack pallets to almost 3 feet high just to get the new trans on to the tranny jack it took forevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvverrrrrrr:haha:

i tried with all my might and could not lift this thing:o

ok, back to work i go
