Hey I'm new to the forum. Got a 93 k1500 with the silverado package a couple weeks ago. Today it started shuddering shaking and I noticed tans fluid on the rear hatch. I'm not a great mechanic as far as diagnostic goes, so I was wondering what everyone thought. No fluid leaks before transmission. All fluid is on the rear of the vehicle and behind front seats

If there is not a major leak from the trans cooler lines going to the radiator. That means Your transmission has severely overheated causing the expanded fluid to be purged out the transmission air vents.

Check the fluid and see if it's burnt (no longer bright pink/red)

More then likely the trans will need to be rebuilt. I had a similar experience with my '93 K1500 Blazer on a road trip. a passage way in the trans got clogged, fluid over heated and killed everything in the trans.

Pretty common with high mileage 4l60E trans.

If you need a new trans, '93 has was first year for the 4L60E and has a one year only PWM design. So make sure you buy according to your year.

It still drove, but slipped horribly.

Check all the output seal areas. The Vents are located on the upper part of trans case. You will have to crawl under truck and look at top of case. I use my phone and take pictures. If fluid is coming out the vents, it's over heating, will over heat soon because it has a blocked passageway and is building to much pressure in the case.

Do a thorough visual inspection to the and locate exactly where fluid is coming from.

Then take it to a reputable trans mechanic.

It could be anything from FUBAR'd or just need a valve body or output seal.

The problem I have ran into is it used to be a manual but was converted to a automatic with a b&m floor shifter. And everyone I have talked to is stumped at what engine and trans are in it.

Have you checked the fluid level in the t-case? If you nicked the output seal on the trans when installing the t-case it is very possible fluid is moving from the trans into the t-case. The t-case would overfill and eventually push out the vent on the top. It is easy to misdiagnose if you don’t check the T-case fluid level. The vent should have a line on it that would move where the fluid would be escaping from the actual source.

Easy to check. Just pull the fill plug. You should not have fluid puking out of that when you pull it. It should only be full to the bottom of the hole. If it’s pouring out as soon as you pull the plug you found your issue. Pull the t-case and replace the seal. Problem solved.

Thanks in gonna try that

No it was just at the hot line on the dipstick.
If it is full now, why is there fluid all over the truck? Was over full? If it is leaking that bad, it should be low.

Are you checking it hot and in neutral after running it through the gears?

It is worth it for the info.

Not sure what happened. It drove fine. I parked it for the night and then when I went to drive it, it started shaking like crazy above 25 mph so I turned a around and when I got home there was what looks to be trany fluid on the rear hatch
