I have an 89 K5 w/ the 700-r4 but it's slipping. Can I just swap the 700-r4 from a 1983 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4 2.8L V6. The guy only wants 250 and it was recently rebuilt. Sound like a good deal?
I don't know if the input spline counts are the same or TC stuff is the same but you might want to consider rebuilding the one you got. The 87/88 and up 700R4's are better than the earlier models.
All the rebuild kits I have seen are around $500 or so. Do you know of any cheaper kits or is that the going rate? My neighbor is a chevy head and has crazy tools so he already said he will rebuild it with me, but if I can buy one in good condition for a few hundred $$ less I'd go that route.
It will bolt up but the S-10 tranny will get killed behind a 350. We put one from a straight 6 behind a 305 and we killed it in about 4 months. 3rd went out on it and it was all down hill from there. No scientific proof just personal experience. I would say dont do it.
I found a "performance" rebuild kit that was only like 600. I would imagine a standard rebuild should be less. Do a quick search and you should turn up some reputable places to order your parts from.
