I'm Looking into buying a 770 holley truck avenger carb. Just wanting to know if they are worth buying or not? Thanks

Need more info... what is it going in, engine specs, trans, what is it going to be primarily used for. Throw us a bone dude, not all of us are Carnac.

Aren't the avenger's more of a drag, strait line full throttle kind of carb?

I run the 670cfm TA on my K5 and really like it. However, there have been plenty of posts about which carb is the best and the info you will take from all the prior threads and from this thread you started will leave you still wandering which card to go with. You will get everybody saying that Holly Truck Avengers blow and Quadrajets are the best thing since sliced bread and vice-versa. It becomes an argument similar to religion, politics and abortion. Good luck though.

I'm biased. I like Holleys. Either way, a 770 will be way too big on a stock engine.
x2 on the being too big on a stock engine.he has not posted back to what its going on and intended use.600 cfm would be adaquate on most any engine i have ran.it will always be an endless discussion on what brand and size is best.it allways come down to personnal preference.

I'm running a 670 cfm truck avenger with a 454. Before it had a 750 cfm holley installed. The 670 runs better on low end, much crisper. Tunning it I now have the jet 2 sizes bigger the original, would have to look up the numbers. Everything is real easy to adjust, never had any issues with it. Buy the way my 454 is stock Gen V, with headers, 2.5 inch duals, and intake for carg vise fuel injection.

if it is still going on a sbc than find a quadraturd of a big block and you will still have hillbilly fuel injection, at junkyards you can pick them up for about $40. the truck avengers are great but you can get the same performance for less money. thats why they call it "bang for the buck $"

I am biased towards quadrajets.

However I will give you my personal experiance with a truck avenger holly. It was actually a great carb for the most part. The problem I ran into is I live at a mile high elevation and within 30 minutes I can drive 2500-3000+ feet higher than that. The truck avenger didnt like that much elevation change and I had to retune it when I went up the mountain.

But as far as the slosh and flooding like a plain holly sometimes has, the truck avenger didnt have those problems, exept once on a very long and very steep downhill.

So in my oppinion it would be a good carb if you dont have as drastic elevation change as I do.

For the cost of a truck avenger you could easily buy a TBI setup. Better cold starts, better economy, better performance at angles.

If you want to go cheap, a Q-jet will perform at least as well as a Truck Avenger and cost $40 or less including a rebuild.

Now I don't really know much about TBI but please explain how I can get a TBI system setup and installed for the $400 I spent on my TA.????

TBI came on every truck (and many cars) between '87 and '95, its very easy to find a complete system for less than $500.

*EDIT* Its up to 95, not 98.

Sorry for the delay i've been out of town... 388 c.i. dart 2 heads lunati 40148 solid lift cam,SRP pistons,6" 327 small journal rods, balanced 9.8:1 comp. currently running a 3310 holley carb and don't like the blubbering on inclines...... TH400 NP205 4.56 gears Full spool in the rear and open in the front. All i do with the truck is a toy, not looking for fuel mileage just all out performance. oh and currently 36" millitary tires but come this spring it will have 38.5 boggers

Once tuned for your engine I think you will be plenty happy with The TA carb. They work good offroad.
You have plenty of engine to run a 770cfm carb.

hey, just a heads up on the 38.5 boggers, they have a drastic tread change from the 35 or 39.5s, if u look online the 39.5s have WAY bigger and thicker knobs, they also r off the side of the tire way further. the 38.5s almost dont come off the side of the tire. my friend has them and REALLY wishes he got 39.5s. or another comparison is the 44 bogger looks like the 39.5s and the 54 bogger looks like the 38.5 boggers. sorry guys, back to the truck avenger!:wink1:

how quick am going to be looking for a dana 60 after i put those boggers on is another question of mine............. I'm a guy that has a rev limiter set at 6500 and hit it alot in the mud!!!!
