I have to agree. I got one just after Christmas and I love it.
I even kept the stock radio in the dash to deter the thieves!

or use one of the larger military surplus ammo cans. I used them in the far-back of my Jimmy for tool boxes. They are tough, easy to make lock-able, and cost me about $20 each...including mounting/locking hardware...

Any pics of the console? I would really like to see a tan one in a K5 before I buy my tan one. Thanks!

    chevyfumes,

I have two of the bigger cans...one I got when I was in the marines... =p ...the other I got at one of the big 1400 table gun shows at the portland expo center. Generally cost $15-20.

They are 8" wide, 17" long, and 14" deep. In terms of storage space, they are pretty similar the the factory console in my '85 jimmy....but 1/3 of it isnt stuck under cup holders...and the ammo cans are a hell of a lot tougher. ;)

I have 2 in the back of my Jimmy. Someday when I *finally* put some dang pics on the www I'll toss in a couple of snap-shots of my setup. Works well.

If I ever roll my Jimmy I will have a lot of things to worry about...but my tools/stuff flying all over the place isn't one of them. =p

Hey, how well does the tuffy box with the front stereo compartment work? Does a CD unit work ok in that angle?

'fumes or anyone else interested...I posted some pics of what those bigger ammo cans look like. I haven't replaced my factory console with one of them yet...but I will at some point. Way tougher than the factory one...way cheaper than the old toughy. I have no doubt the toughy consoles are great, but for those of us saving up pennies for that 1-ton conversion...its just one more way to save. =p Anyway, pics are up at....

My friend has one in his jeep with the cd player in the front on the angle and it works fine. Doesnt skip. I think it might matter how good the cd player is. His is a clarion cd player.

Great! I'll keep the cheap head unit. Still tells time well. And put a decent unit in the box. Hopefully turn away wandering eyes and hands.

Not ignoring you, I will try and get a picture tonight of the tuffy tan console against my somewhat faded tan vinyl seats.

I've had a CD player in mine for a couple of years now with no problems whatsoever. Plus, I have no worries of stereo theft either!
