Guy says it's out of a 1992 chevy with 6.2 diesel.

This looks like a nv4500 to me but the bell housing looks weird. Also where is the slave cylinder attached?

Here are the pics

Looks like an NV4500 to me and the slave bolts to the bellhousing just below the starter, you can see the two bolt holes for it in the pic. T-case looks like an NP241

Thanks.

That is what I was thinking also. I forgot the nv4500's originally had external slave's. I had only seen the ones with the internal.

So do you think $525 is a square deal for the whole assembly with 40,000 miles on rebuilt tranny? This includes all the pedals, brackets, cylinders, xmember, etc...

Just a quick question about the SFA diesel trucks. Do they have a drivers side drop for the front drive shaft? All the GM SFA i have seen have passenger side output.
It looks to me that trans and xfer case is for an IFS truck.
What are dropping that trans into?

I don't know the answer. According to the seller the truck is a 1992 1/2 ton with 6.2 diesel, nv4500 etc... Were the 92 half tons IFS?

Yup as far as i know all the trucks after 88 are IFS. Only Blazer and Subs kept the SFA till 91.
IFS have the drivers side drop for the front drive shaft. So you would need a 241 Xfer case with a passenger drop if you have SFA.

Yeah, that or I will change the spline on my existing np208 to a 32. I would like to find a np241 with pass drop.

Why are you even asking this question? He never said anything about a SFA.

HOLYROLLER1, $525.00 is a SMOKING deal for that combo. The trans alone goes for $1000.00.

x2, great deal if it's a rebuilt trans.

Yeah, according to the guy the transmission and the transfer case were rebuilt 38,600 miles ago.

Is there anything I should look for when I go to pick it up? I have never purchased a transmission I couldn't test in the vehicle first.

Ask him what kind of oil he ran in it. There's only one kind that will NOT burn up the syncros and it's the Castrol Syntorq (same as the special GM stuff that costs ~$35\quart). (It'll cost about $100 to fill it with oil).

I've heard lots of people refill them with standard gear oil and that will supposedly kill it.

According the the reciept it was a GM 75W-90 synthetic, said it cost over 100 just for that. Does the oil have any certain characteristics (color, etc...) that so I can know that is what was used?

Is there anything else I should check?

If there's a part number on the receipt, check it against this info:

You MUST use the correct synthetic lubricant. The GM part no. for the correct oil is 12346190 (quart). The Dodge part number for the same oil is 4874459 Use of ANY other oil in the NV4500 will lead to failure and also voids any chance of a warranty claim.

I asked the question because of the 1983 6.2 Diesel Blazer with Stock suspention Holyroller has in his sig. It is a SFA truck. If he was putting that NV4500 and Xfercase in his Blazer. I simply wanted to point out that that IFS setup would not be a direct drop in without changing the Xfer case.

And Yes That is a very good deal!

That would explain why you asked the question. I try not to assume (when you assume it makes an ass out of u and me :haha:) anything though and since he did not mention buying this for his rig i didn't even think about that.

No, C/K20 Crew Cabs were built until 1989 in the 1973-1987 body style. C/K30 Crew Cabs were built until 1991 (like Blazers and Suburbans) in the 1973-1987 body style. They also sold some regular cab, chassis cabs until 1991.

Back on subject, $525 is a good deal for a complete setup.

He could find an NP241 out of a 1989-1991 K5 or K Suburban, and use it.

I appreciate it also. That would suck if I didn't know what I was getting into and went to do it. :)

I will be using my passenger drop np208 with a 32 spline for the transfer case.

I picked up the tranny today. Everything seems to be good. Guy seemed honest and everything added up. I will now take it to a local reputable shop and have them look at it. They said they could check the synchros, etc...

I actually got the whole deal for $575 with all the parts for the clutch, hangers, etc... Cylinders look pretty much brand new and the system is still sealed :waytogo:

Now to start planning the clutch hanger and the move for the wires, brake controller line, etc...

Just got word from the tranny guy. Got 2 thumbs up. Everything looks good.

I do need a new pivot ball and clutch fork but everything else is good to go.

I am really excited!!
