Just wondering if there's anything wrong with using used lift springs or if it's better to buy them new? There's an ad on CL a couple hours away from me for some 4" TC EZ Ride springs with ORD heavy duty shackles and grease-able bolts for $100 that's pretty tempting. Doesn't say the mileage just that they were under his blazer for a few years and are in good shape besides needing a fresh coat of paint...

Is this something that you guys would snatch up or would I be better off waiting and buying everything new from ORD?

I've purchased used springs in the past, it's a little bit of a crap shoot but depending on the overall goal for the truck and the condition of the springs sometimes it's worth taking the chance. Not much to check for other than set them upside down next to each other and see if the free arch is the same and that there are no obvious bends in the springs, the bushings can tell you a lot about how used/abused they are as well.

those have been on CL for a while now. They look rusty for only being a few years old.

The upside, they won't need to settle in

My front springs are 30 year old superlift and are fine.
Removed blocks from the rear and installed new 4 inch EZ rides and had to add a zero rate to bring the back up level to the front.

You just don't know if they are tweeked

Yes, but a good look over will tell you most of what you need to know.

If they don't lay flat on the floor, say no!

Thanks for all the tips guys. In the pictures, it's a little hard to tell with the bolts and shackles but they look like they're laying pretty flat on the ground. It'd be around 2.5 hours one way to see them in person though and I'm not sure if I want to make that trip on a dice roll...

Yeah I think I remember seeing them on CL a while back with some other square body parts but got in to the same debate about if the springs would be useable and worth the trip. I had a pair of Deaver springs on my old Tacoma that didn't look much better rust-wise after 2-3 years so I'm not too worried about that part. The bolts and bushings all look in good shape and the shackles still have the ORD sticker on them so I'm not sure how much use they would've seen.

if they were close to me I would of grabbed them up .

springs are 300-350 pair and shackles / bushing kit over 100 bucks .

set them both upside down and have them humped up side by side . if no notable hight difference like 1 sagged out run them .

The pictures make it look like he simply unbolted them from his truck. That implies the corrosion isn't too bad. No reason to be too suspicious as long as the inspection is fine. All you have to do is change your mind on height or axle placement and end up with a good used set of springs. Many of us have taken off springs just like that to bolt on some ORD packs. A tweaked spring is more likely than a cracked one, but look closely for cracks around the U-bolt area.

I sent the guy an email through CL last night asking for some more info and pictures of them arches up to make sure they aren't tweaked. He said they probably only have a few thousand miles on them since they were on his camping truck that spent most of it's time in the driveway. He's going to try and get the pictures later today and assuming they look good (no cracks/aren't tweaked) they may be well worth the trip out there.

sweetk30 - You're spot on. Last time I checked the same stuff new would easily be over $500 with shipping so if everything looks good it would be a heck of a deal.

you go buy them . ship them to me . I pay you . I still be money ahead :pimp:

Haha thanks but I'll pass :rotfl:

So the guy just sent me some better pictures and they look good to me.

No cracks by the u-bolts, they're the same height side by side, and don't have anything else that I can think of that might be wrong. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the bay area this weekend lol.

Thanks again for the tips and suggestions guys :saweet:

THE PRICE IS RIGHT ! I have used 3/4 ton dodge springs under my 83 and they work great. 2-3" lift.

What year Dodge, 4x4 or 2wd,or are both the same ?..
I may have a lead on a 90's 2wd Dodge thats being scrapped soon ..
I'd snag the springs if I could for spares for my '82..

80's something fronts. The front axle moved back 1" and the springs are a little narrower. I got the adjustable rear shackles from Menards for $2 a piece. They work great. I think they were off shelving..
