Income tax comes and I will have between 6200 dollars to spend on my 1990 k5 blazer ...it has front Dana 44 and 14ff ..4.10 gears...it doesn't have a motor ,transmission ,transfer case,or driveshafts,.....question 1 should I just get a good donor 1990 suburban mainly cause they go for 1500 and for the np 241 that i want ...which will be runnin and pick it clean for the drivetrain other than axles...sell the motor make 500...because I want the 6.0 out of a 2006 Chevy HD ..it cost 2200 with 70,000 miles...or 8.1 same year 80,000 miles for 2400....and I still want 8 inch lift with 35"s ....the blazer will be use for weekend hunting fishing, camping and pulling a bass boat .....i need all input....whats the best way to stretch the money......thanks

Buy a new rifle and some ammo...............

Oh, you only want Blazer options......

Nevermind.

WOW... :screwy:

if u want a hunting/fishing/boat towing truck...with $6200,u can just go out and buy a very built blazer, minus ur motor prefference of course. then shove that new motor in if u really want to. and still have money left over. and possibly have a rig u couldnt even build for $6200. cause everyone knows u dont sell ur truck for anything compared to what u built it for.

:confused:Yeah Shaun but me and my son thats 6 has had IT for 7 years....its line-x inside ,white face gauges and no rust what's so ever...so getting rid of it is defiantly out of the question....and we the ck5 guys build our rigs not buy them already done from what it sounds like u do.... So that's not a logically thing to do....

8" lift and 35's???? why not 6 perfectly clears every thing looks better and more stable.

Aside from that I'd say go for the donor truck.

oo ok,sorry, but it sounded to me that u just picked a stock truck up,didnt have much experience working on stuff and just wanted a rig to enjoy. my bad! and dont worry, ive built every single inch of my truck in my driveway:waytogo: but im sure ur kid will enjoy this truck! having $6200 is a lot, lucky u! i would just shop around for seperate parts and not get the donor truck, thats just my opinion. u just need a tranny and t-case right? it seems easier to do that.

Another quick question to look into, Is the 6.0/8.1 the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the older engine. My self I dont know, I havent ever delt with a newer setup. Reason I ask is it may determine what tranny you have to use:dunno:. If you look around you may be able to pick up a 3/4 ton burb. One with a 454, then your engine is covered and you can put the $2200 into an EZefi or F.A.S.T unit. Probably a simpler swap and you'll have full control of tuning.

Well, I was more or less goofing around, but remember the only time you can have too many guns is when you are trying to swim a river..............

But, when I saw you have a 7 year old, I had to post this.

As great as a K5 is, this will teach him more about responsibility and safety.

if i had the chance to swap either a 6.0 or a 8.1 right now i would go with a 6.0, there just isnt enough aftermarket support for the 8.1 now if you ever wanted to up grade. and yea i know you can bolt a th350 th400 or 700r4 to a 6.0L

Yeah fordum ...me and my son are ruger guys...we have a gp100 ,Lcp 380 crimpson trace, and I bought my son the all wood 10-22 long rifle for his birthday and first rifle......just a few of the toys....but marlin idle defiantly a good name to have

I hope that 2200 includes a trans? Assuming this is a used engine you're picking up...

You bring home a parts truck if you need ALOT of things or maybe at least the engine/trans/t-case. I wouldn't buy a parts truck if all I really wanted was the t-case. I'd find a used one or go to the junkyard (if they even have anything that old) and pull what I needed.

I'd find a good used 6.0 with a trans and a used NP241 and contact Howell or someone for the wiring harness.

edit: you haven't really mentioned what trans you want to run. I was assuming auto. And don't quote me on this but I believe a 6.0 with a 4L60e (maybe 4L65e too) behind it will bolt up to an NP241 pass drop t-case. You should check into that if you don't already have it figured out. That way you can have the computer controlled trans too.

Other option would be to find a good 700R4 to put behind the 6.0 and no computer connection to the trans other than the torque converter lockup.

For your budget I wouldn't suggest the 8.1. Don't get me wrong, it can be done, but I think it would be more headache than it's worth for what you want to do.

Hey 496 do u have pics of the 2002 seats u put in......i want the center console seat....thanks for the info ....defiantly a 700r4.... Mainly fir the trans lines are all there and ready.....and I need the transfer case crossmember and alot of little parts from the parts truck. . And the steering column since my blazer was stolen and stripped ......
